Keane and Loughlan Spotted at Watford

Town boss Roy Keane and assistant manager Tony Loughlan were spotted at Vicarage Road this afternoon watching Watford beat Parma 3-2 in a friendly. Earlier in the week, TWTD was first to reveal that the Blues are chasing Hornets striker Tamás Priskin.

The Hungarian scored once and won a freekick which led to another of Watford’s goals as he impressed against the Italian side.

On Friday, Keane denied that he had made a bid for the 22-year-old after a TV channel claimed that the Hornets had turned down a £1 million offer. While no bid may yet have been made, the duo’s presence at this afternoon’s game suggests that Priskin is indeed on Town’s radar.

In January, TWTD reported that Town’s head of football development Bryan Klug had watched Watford in action.

At the time, defender Adrian Mariappa appeared to be the player targeted, something subsequently denied by the club after a proposed swap deal involving Veliche Shumulikoski fell through.

Former chief executive Derek Bowden told TWTD in March: “We talked to Watford about a swap but that didn’t transpire. The player we were interested in wasn’t Adrian Mariappa. We did talk to them briefly about a swap, but they didn’t want to do it.”

Priskin, who has a year left on his contract, may well have been the man the Blues were looking to take to Portman Road as part of that deal.

Keane is looking to bring in two strikers ahead of the start of the season with Celta Vigo youngster Joselu also being targeted, having been reportedly spotted last season by specialist skills coach Steve Foley.
