Town Targeting Four Sunderland Players?
Town Targeting Four Sunderland Players?
Wednesday, 26th Aug 2009 23:35

Town have targeted four Sunderland players in a £7 million bid, according to a tabloid report. Daryl Murphy and Nyron Nosworthy are the other players Roy Keane is aiming to land, in addition to Grant Leadbitter and Carlos Edwards.

All four were key players during Keane’s spell at the Stadium of Light and were involved in Monday’s Carling Cup tie at Norwich, which the Blues boss is understood to have attended.

On Monday TWTD reported that Nosworthy, Murphy and Edwards were amongst Keane’s targets, while news of the Blues’ interest in Leadbitter broke this afternoon.

Leadbitter’s PFA representative Matthew Buck has confirmed that a fee for the former England U21 international has been agreed, but as yet there is no clarification on the position regarding the other reported offers.

Nosworthy, who Keane switched from full-back to centre-half, has long been known to be a player the Town manager rates highly, while the Blues and Murphy have been negotiating a move for most of the summer.

Meanwhile, Celtic boss Tony Mowbray has confirmed that his skipper Stephen McManus doesn’t fancy joining Town: "I have no problem with people being interested in our players, but what I would suggest, from my understanding, is Stephen McManus would have no interest in going to Ipswich Town. He is captain of our club and wants to get himself back into our team.”

I do think this could be a shrud move by Roy Keane.
knows the players well, strenghts and weaknesses and as it's four players possibly coming in then they know each other well enough anyway.

Might be worth getting Andy Reid in as well or in place of someone, I rate him highly was a very very good player in this division with Nottingham Forest not long ago.

If this was to happen, it will stablise ipswich, espically having edwards on the wing, which would mean walters moving upfront along with wickham/priskin. The big man we need upfront. Season start here!

Great move by Keane if this is true. Its clear that he's tried to use as many of Magilton's squad as possible but they're not up to the task. So now its time for Plan B: get the players in he knows well, who respect him and who understand how he wants to play.

Spot on Roy, the season starts here.

Decent players, but very desperate in my opinion. He's given the players that Magilton considered as squad or 'prospects' such as Balkestein, Trotter and Peters a go, it hasn't worked so he wants 4 of his old players back in the hope that what worked before will work again because he has no backup plan. Who out of any of us would have picked those 3 in a starting XI last season? I have nothing against them and truly truly hope i am proved wrong, but they are not promotion winning calibre and i think we all know that.

Nah, Sunderland's reserves would be too aspirational for us, we're just the Sunderland version of those massive Storage places you get about these days.

I'm not holding my breath for all 4, seems unlikey all will be able to settle personal terms. They are all the sort of signings we need though, let's wait and see.

Wow - Sunderland only just stayed up last year and we are getting excited about the dreggs of their squad.
We needed a 2 or 3 first team regulars not eight signings no better that what we have .For example is Priskin better than Pablo/ Walters? . Healy better than Shumi ? Delaney / Thatcher or Harding ? so far I dont think so . I am sure these four will give our squad depth but how much will they improve the starting 11 .

"Wow - Sunderland only just stayed up last year and we are getting excited about the dreggs of their squad."

What a stupid comment, in case you didn't realise they were in the PREMIER LEAGUE? This is the CHAMPIONSHIP.

Slight difference in quality.

Ah good, more Sunderland players. Can somebody tell Roy that he doesn't have to recruit only ex Irish internationals, Man United reserves and average Sunderland players?
0

CopfordBlue added 00:29 - Aug 27
Only time will tell if they come and if they do whether they are any good but its a clear indication that RK is solely responsible for transfers in and out rather than the board. If he wasn't then they wouldn't all be Irish and/or his former teammates or players.

Duffers - So you know that Nosworthy will be better than Bruce and Murphy better than Stead / Pablo just because they are in a Premiership squad ?
