Shirts Thief Jailed
Shirts Thief Jailed
Monday, 14th Sep 2009 13:10

Jamie Underwood, the man who stole shirts and other memorabilia from the statue of Sir Bobby Robson, was jailed for eight weeks by magistrates earlier today.

Underwood, 21, admitted the thefts to magistrates last month, telling the court that he was drunk at the time of the incident and couldn’t remember stealing the shirts, scarves and other memorabilia placed by the statue as tributes to the legendary Town manager in the weeks after his death.

Should be made to walk around the pitch before the Newcastle game!

Totally agree with Gilesy. The punishment seems totally disproportionate. Yes, the bloke is pondlife but surely the greater good is served by him doing community service??

I reckon that we should all RUSH him!

His Childish actions should result in a some childhood punishments...

We should knock for him and kick him in!!

In reply to Gilesy's comment, think of it as someone stealing flowers from off a loved ones grave? How upset would you be is you saw that? You'd want the maximum punishment possible even if that is to string him up on the gates of the Portman Road Car park so we all can pee on him as we walk past....

Come on, whether you do agree with the custodial nature of his sentence or not it makes sense that he deserves a little bit of a slap!

The guy is pondlife and the crime he has comitted is a very low blow to us all . Nw 10 tractor is right when he says that it is like someone stealing flowers from a loved ones grave . But this would not receive 8 weeks in prison. He has been made an example of for sure, perhaps this time the judge should have listened to a few of the alternative punishments above.

Sould have been years!!
Susspect the low life will have to move from the area, I for one will not be sad to see the s**t disappear, so long as we tax payers dont have to stump up to re-hiuse him because living in Ipswich infringes his human right to a normal life!!

I suspect the scumbag had a lovely long list of previous crimes of which he has avoided punishment. Therefore a prison sentence is just rewards! It will also send the right message out to all those other pondlife that think crime pays!

Gilesy added 22:03 - Sep 14
So, the general consensus is that this guy deserves to get his head kicked in while in prison, have his head kicked in when he comes out of prison, be executed, and forced to move from the area, and that he has a criminal record to match the Norman Fletcher (despite no proof of that whatsoever) because he stole some scarves and stuff.

Ok.

Simple terms it was 8 weeks for stealing. Plus the fact that using the "I was drunk at the time" excuse was never going to work. I'm sure he has been a bad boy before, but to the people slagging off prison if you have never been in a prison it's not such a holiday camp as you think. Don't worry I have not served time... just visit them a fair bit.

I like the idea of him having to wear a sign in the North Stand - maybe a T-shirt. Sentence him to ten games amongst us. For the peaceable majority of us, serious mocking and derision would suffice; Mr Underwood would have to worry about the minority of our number who would be waiting for him to get outside the ground and away from the CCTV...

Yes this was a crime in bad taste, & a punishment is right, but prison? I'm not sure, would community service (maybe on match day) have made the point that this sort of crime is not acceptable in a better way? I wonder if Sir Bobby himself would have wanted to see this individual actually go to prison for this crime?.... Personally I don't he would have.

SORRY!, should have read, ..... Personally, I don't think he would have.

As a Prison Officer in a Suffolk Jail I know that he will spend his whole Sentence in a Cat B Local Prison (most likely HMP Norwich) I do agree that there are better ways to punish this idiot but the ways we would like to see him humiliated are not possible due to damn Human Rights. I would love to see him marched around the pitch before the Newcastle game personally.. Scum!
