Clegg: Win Just Around Corner
Clegg: Win Just Around Corner
Wednesday, 7th Oct 2009 10:26

Chief executive Simon Clegg has again backed manager Roy Keane and says Town’s tide is about to turn. Clegg was speaking at last night’s AGM of the West Anglia Branch of the Ipswich Town Supporters Club.

Clegg says gaining that psychologically important first victory of the season is only a matter of time: “We are going to get that first win, it is just around the corner. The tide is about to turn and I'm confident we will be standing here in a few weeks’ time having a very different discussion."

The chief executive admitted that all has not gone to plan, but remains convinced that Roy Keane is the man to lead the Blues: "It's not where we want to be, we all recognise that, we are not trying to shy away from that, but I remain equally confident that Roy will be able to turn things around with the players he has got.

"I don't believe it is a relegation fight at all. Our aspirations are to take this club back into the Premier League at the earliest opportunity.

"Roy is committed to this club, he has a two-year contract. We have got absolute confidence and belief in him that he's the right man to turn this situation around for us."

Meanwhile, former England defender Sol Campbell says he is still officially contracted to Notts County, meaning he could join a Football League club on loan outside the transfer window. Town boss Roy Keane recently said he could be interested in signing the ex-Spurs and Arsenal man.

Campbell left County only weeks into a five-year deal last month, but says that the formalities severing his ties with the League Two side are yet to be completed: "People have to sign papers.”

The 35-year-old is set to train with Arsenal and says he hopes to find a new club and get back playing before the transfer window opens in January: "There are ways of playing before January, I'm not going to elaborate, but there are ways. Not very soon, but there are ways.

"It will be great to train here and get fit. My overall fitness is OK. But something else might happen before then."

Campbell reportedly hopes to receive special dispensation from the authorities to join another club on a permanent basis outside the transfer window, but if this is not forthcoming a loan spell with a Football League side could be a possibility if he continues to remain officially on Notts County's books.

The Sky Blues had been keen on bringing in the 19-year-old marksman on loan as cover for Clinton Morrison and Leon Best.

However, the move has stalled over the reported length of the deal, with The Sky Blues keen on three months and Wolves looking to loan him out until next summer.

Coleman has now admitted that the teenager, who is expected to sign for a Championship rival, will not be joining his play-off chasing squad.

Taken from Sky site, maybe one of the two on the way to PR? have seen in play for Wales,he looks ok. We need that win,two loan players one must be a CB,Smith will get better. Think we should make three signings CB CF and ABO Luck something we have not had all season

Lets all stick together, We all need to help turn this club around, No more booing and moaning at Portman road if a pass gets missed or a shot over.
I sit in the Sir Bob stand. why cant the other stands make some noise????
A mate of mine bought a season ticket for the green king upper and he says it was the worst thing he did, Its so quiet in there and people just sit there while the away fans to the right just take the mick out of you lot.
Get a voice for gods sake!!!

Signing Sol Campbell would be a shrewd move in my opinion & would steady the ship at the back. yes it's a gamble but one worth taking.
Go on Roy get him signed up if it's possible?

i read this site daily, generally to see what idiotic comments are posted by supposed Ipswich fans, but rarely to I feel compelled to add my own idiotic comment - until readin Callums post. What Utter drivel - we are 11 games into the season and apparantly we are in a relegation dog fight, and with kleane at the helm WILL GO DOWN. We all know the season hasnt exactly gone to plan -but 3 of the last 4 games have seen us concede in the last minute - withour those we would have gained 7 extra points - wishful thinking I know. I'm assuming your the same idiotic supporter that kept calling for Jims head as well, now we have a manager capable of taking the team forward, with time, you still are not happy. Uneducated and negative posts like this make me wish i could change alegiance - as i really do not want to be tarred with the same stupid brush...... Why don't you sign up and support spurs - as they seem to be the only fans who have a more idiotic take on football than you - go on make yourself feel clever!

I remember when you we were all saying "its only five games into the season" or "six games into the season", eleven may not seem like a lot but its a quarter of the season gone already and these things tend to creep up on you, before you know it we are at Christmas and in real stook!!!!

SC has said exactly what you would expect a CEO to say at this stage. Part of his job is to present a positive face to the outside world - nomatter what he (and ME) may be thinking privately. He is not going to say that we are in a relegation battle - as we aren't (yet). He will verballly back RK unless we reach the point where ME decides he has to go.

No surprises in what he said - and well done to him for having the bottle to meet the fans face to face at such a difficult time.

Why is there so much talk about Sol Campbell??

Forget about him! If he is allowed to join another club, he will have so many options. Why on earth would he want to come and play for us????

FAO callumgarryskeemer - We are not in a relegation struggle. There are only 11 games gone. The table is very deceiving this time of year. Wait until christmas and the table will make more sense then.

All points to Sol coming to town that would solve some of the defensive problems

Legend - tell your mate to stay put! What we need in the Green King Stand is someone to cheer lead and get the party started. Someone to bang a flippin big drum the whole game, like the Pompey supporters have.

If we are not in a relegation battle what are you drinking?
Surely bottom outplayed by the team 4th from bottom, playing crap, we must be favorites.
Why are you waiting till christmas? confirmation we are down.
The table is reliable, the good teams are top and the crap bottom.
Town fans should live in a world of reality not the clegg bullshit being branded around.

We would have taken all 3 points in 2 of those away games had it not been for our poor defending, we conceded the lead in both games towards the end, also we would have drawn last weekend, again the same circumstances cost us, we could do with a good Striker although our midfielders are looking more useful now, however, I have little faith in our back four generally speaking, perhaps one good central defender would make the world of a difference.

Roy Keane will turn this round I'm certain, I am delighted that the club are so supportive of him & sincerely believe that he will eventually be seen as one of the top Managers in the Country, I hope that it will be with ITFC; have faith, give him & the team our support, boo boys are frankly pathetic, surely they must realise that it helps nobody, remember that Bobby Robson said that in his early days at Ipswich "IF WE WON MR COBBOLD WOULD OPEN A BOTTLE OF CHAMPAGNE WITH ME, WHEN WE LOST HOWEVER HE WOULD OPEN TWO BOTTLES", that is the way to encourage people to do their best, but I know that some of you will sadly continue to boo when things go wrong, remarking that it is your privilege etc; maybe soon there will be little to boo for, STAY SUPPORTIVE!

Clegg for Prime Minister. Just one thing on this sorry note ! No team are to good to go down, just ask Southampton, Chalton, Norwich and Leeds. True early days, nearly a 3rd of the season gone. So we all must do a little more some how, and get the wheels rolling on our Tractors !

Clegg is way too smooth to be PM. Makes a great spin doctor though - doesn't matter if he's telling the truth or lying, same false smile. Isn't it strange how we covet the ability to say lots, but yet say nothing?

Anyway, we are too good to go down. Keep the faith.
