Town Targeting Crystal Palace Striker
Town Targeting Crystal Palace Striker
Thursday, 26th Nov 2009 13:38

Town are trying to secure the loan signing of Crystal Palace striker Stern John before today’s 5pm deadline, according to reports in south London. The 33-year-old previously played for Roy Keane at Sunderland.

The Trinidad and Tobago international has played for the Eagles only seven times since joining them in the summer after undergoing elbow surgery in August. He is yet to score this season.

Having played for Malta Carib Alcons in his home country, John moved on to the Carolina Dynamo, the New Orleans Riverboat Gamblers and Columbus Crew in the US before relocating to England with Nottingham Forest in 1999.

Since then the 5ft 11in tall frontman has played for a long list of clubs, largely at Championship level: Birmingham City, Coventry, Derby (loan), Sunderland, Southampton and Bristol City (loan), before joining Palace in the summer on a free transfer. He has made 109 appearances for his country, scoring 69 goals.

In eight months at Sunderland under Keane between January and August 2007, John scored five goals in 10 starts and six sub appearances, helping the Black Cats to win the Championship. Overall in English football, John has scored 97 goals in 250 starts and 105 sub substitute appearances.

On Tuesday Keane revealed he was looking at bringing in two loan players by 5pm today, one of which was a striker from a club outside the Premier League.

I agree with the majority, we can do way better than Stern John surely?? He is well past his prime and his career is all but over. if you are gonna go for someone of that age group then Kev phillips on loan would do a job...a born goalscorer.

This is embarrassing. I work with a load of Forest fans - this is a player they offloaded years ago and has played for a dozen clubs since!

You can get 50/1 on us finishing in the top 6...

Remember - Linford won the 100 meters with PMA - Positive Mental Attitude... ... and some steroids but that's not the point. Get behind the team, don't worry about Keanes job - his contract is bigger than Linfords luchbox - do your job - support.

We are the laughing stock of the Championship....
Thats it Keane, you've had your lot from this Town fan, the sooner you get lost the better, when you go can you take the pratt Clegg with you...

Suffolk N Good, could you please explain to me your reasoning.

What are you exactly upset about.
As far as i can tell we havent signed John, so there is no need to have " had it", as you put it.
Or are you upset that we didnt sign him?
I cant make out your reasoning.

Sods law, i post that question, and just as i press send, the loan is confirmed!!
I suppose the question still stands, until he has pulled on the shirt, and played for us, and either been good or bad, how can his signing make us a laughing stock/
