Stead Appeal Today
Stead Appeal Today
Wednesday, 30th Dec 2009 07:26

The FA will hear Jon Stead’s appeal against his red card at Crystal Palace later today. The striker was shown a straight red by referee Paul Taylor close to the end of the first half of the game at Selhurst Park on Boxing Day for a foul on Freddie Sears.

If Stead’s appeal is unsuccessful he’ll miss the FA Cup tie at Blackpool on Saturday, the away league game at Leicester the following Sunday and the home match with Coventry City.

The FA could add an additional game to his ban if they feel the appeal is frivolous, although given the particularly controversial nature of the sending off this seems highly unlikely.

Meanwhile, Town have confirmed that new keeper Brian Murphy won't be available for selection until after the weekend. The 26-year-old's Bosman move from League of Ireland champions Bohemians will be ratified by the football authorities on Monday.

I really hope common sense prevails and the appeal is successful - but who actually feels confident?

I'm feeling very agnostic on this one and think it's very difficult to call. Obv it's common sense to rescind it and I think we need it - until we get an out-and-out target man we need Stead in the starting XI, he proved that on Monday.

just hope they dont add another game ban for the appeal, because fa seem to be doing that more often now when red cards appeals are not successful

we need him tbh. only person banging in the goals. only person who looked likely to score at palace, the peters goal came of nothing.

Don't think they'll add a game, but I don't see it being overturned.
The decision was harsh, but not the extent that it was utterly wrong. He was very late.
Chin up.

I'm very confident it'll be over turned. It was a nothing challenge! The Palace-influenced referee should have blew up for the first challenge on Steady in the first place.

Have no fear, Fellow Town Fans!

I'll be very surprised if its overturned. The FA seek to uphold decisions at every opportunity, understandably, to prevent the game from going into disrepute. The decision, albeit harsh, wasn't unheard of.

An independent Regulatory Commission have today dismissed a claim from Ipswich Town striker Jonathan Stead, following his red card for serious foul play in Ipswich's game against Crystal Palace on 26 December.

Stead appealed against the decision, citing wrongful dismissal, but this was rejected by the Commission. The striker will now receive a four match ban, increased by one game and starting with immediate effect, as the Commission felt the claim had no prospect of success.

Surely the appeals board will look at video evidence and get the referee and lino's match report and come to the right conclusion (and over turn the bastard)... Unless Steady said a few obscenities to the Ref when the foul on him wasn't given.....

We'll have to get on with it as there doesn't appear to be a higher authority for us to appeal to. I suppose that it gives a chance to others - Pablo, Priskin, Wickham (Martin even?) - so let's look on the bright side. Steady was by no means an automatic choice until just a few games ago, and with the spirit in the side now who knows who might come through.

totally out of order by the fa we had a good reason to appeal, ok maybe they couldn't turn it over but adding a game is absolutely over the top. It's like they want to stop appeals from happening in the future because they get bored with the paper work that goes with it.
