Bruce Not Ruling Out Permanent Leicester Move
Bruce Not Ruling Out Permanent Leicester Move
Friday, 5th Feb 2010 10:21

Defender Alex Bruce is not ruling out his loan move to Leicester being made a permanent one in the summer if all goes well. Bruce joined the Foxes on loan until the end of the season last Monday.

The Irish international said: "I am an Ipswich player but we will look at it at the end of the season and, if all goes well, then we will take it from there."

Bruce, 25, says the prospect of a play-off place attracted him to the Walkers Stadium: "The fact City are after promotion was a big temptation to come here because Ipswich aren't doing that well at the minute, although I am sure they will turn it around.

"Now I have the chance to play in a promotion push and every player would want to be involved in that.”

Bruce says he was surprised when he heard of Leicester’s enquiry: "City's interest came a bit out of the blue. I spoke to Roy Keane and he gave me the option, and I just felt the time was right for a change.

"When a club like Leicester City comes knocking it is always an honour. I thought it was the right opportunity.

"When I went to the [Leicester-Newcastle] game the other night it reinforced my thoughts about what it would be like, when I saw the big crowd and imagined the big games. They are chasing promotion as well and everything as a whole seemed right.

"I spoke to the manager [Nigel Pearson] after the game and it just felt right. I am now looking forward to the challenge.”

Bruce is contracted to the Blues until the summer of 2011, having signed a new deal last summer.

at the end of the day the centre back pairing is mcauley and delaney and these guys have nailed down a starting place on merit, They have built an understanding and are playing well together is a result. we all know Bruce is a centre back and not a full back and so at this moment in time there isn't a place for him in the team, so he's gone on loan to a team doing better than us. to be honest I cant really see him displacing either wayne brown or hobbs in the centre of leicester's defence either, will be interesting to see how much game time he gets. Yes he's always been a whole hearted and committed player but that doesn't make up for a lack of ability, he's been ok but we now have better. At times he has also been a liability, with hot headed rash challenges that get him sent off and also when he started against newcastle injured. he is still a town player and so his comments are somewhat disappointing

Bruce is one of the worst players I have ever watched. My heart was always in my mouth waiting for him to do something stupid. Trouble is Leicester wont want him so he will prob be back.

Oh well, not bothered if he stays or goes, a squad player in my opinion. Not been at his best this season and I'm sure we can get someone better in during the summer if he does go. Having said that it's not that I'm willing him to leave so if he comes back and stays at the end of the season, then so be it!
