Stead Turns Down Coventry Move?
Stead Turns Down Coventry Move?
Saturday, 13th Feb 2010 09:13

Striker Jon Stead has turned down his loan move to Coventry City, according to some of this morning's papers, although reports elsewhere claim the former Sheffield United man's switch is still in the balance.

The 26-year-old was due to continue talks with the Sky Blues yesterday regarding a loan move with a view to a permanent switch in the summer.

Coventry boss Chris Coleman was hoping to have Stead in his squad for today’s game with QPR but the former Fulham manager was unable to persuade the ex-England U21 international to join his club in time to be involved against Rangers for the second time in a week.

Reports in Coventry claim Stead is still considering whether to make the move having asked if he can think about the switch over the weekend.

wtf hedgy?! Not gonna get a game? He is while healy is doing absoloutely nothing except getting offside 100 times a match! Why would we sell the best striker we've had this season, and joint top scorer? Would be so stupid to let him go!

He's certainly not been prolific this season, however facts don't lie and he is our top scorer so we should look to keep him.

Having said that his form is similar to Pablo at times, he seems to dip in confidence at times. Personally I'd like to see him stay. However Murphy has looked good so far and if Healy improves with matchs as he gains his fitness back it may be a struggle for Stead to have nothing but a subs role towards the end of the season.

Just you stay Jon...Roy is living in the past...time for him forget about Sunderland and start to get his coaching staff to work on your heading...the only thing missing from your game. Martin and Edwards are the ones who are surplus to our team in my opinion, while Priskin needs confidence and a goal in front of the North Stand to get his ITFC career under way.

Lots of talk about how poor Pablo is this year. Given the chances he will score goals like Stead, difference is he will set up plenty for the right striker to finish.
If there is a player who has also had a big drop in form but never lacks effort it is Walters. He was rattling in several goals a season a couple of years back and now struggling to score many. His effort is 100% in every game and deserves his start but is lacking a finish at present.
Be surprised if the loan or not of Stead would effect getting Chopra in. Do we even know that he wants to come to PR or Keane wants him?

Hope this is true and he stays.

Can't see him being as low down in the pecking order as some suggest. Counago inconsistent, Walters better on wing, Healy not proven yet, Wickam too young, Great start for Murphy but still early days.

It would'nt take a lot for him to get back in the side. A Murphy/Stead partnership would be worth seeing.

Perhaps Stead should stay, ater hearing from QPR of Priskins performance yesterday, they said he was very poor, had to sub him after 54mins, they wish that they could send him back. Shame really because we thought he would do well there

Think Stead has been harshly treated by management and the fickle fans. Cant have been easy to be picked one week, then dropped, playing out wide, then up front, sometimes alone, then with a variety of different partners. Im sure Ive seen somewhere that his goals to starts ratio is pretty good despite this (maybe some statto out there could add to that).
Then there has been this underlying feeling that hes not really one of Keanes favourites (suggestions early season that he wanted to move him on, but maybe just paper talk). Until of course he had that good run of goals recently and then all the fans apparently seemed to love him, and they and Keane were bemoaning our luck that he had a 4 game ban.
Think it would be a mistake to get rid - especially as Healy may not gel, and Murphy has had a great start but its still early days. I bet peoples opinions would change if Murphy suddenly went 10 games without a goal (which, lets face it, could happen cos his strike rate isnt historically any good).
