Stead Loan Move Confirmed
Stead Loan Move Confirmed
Monday, 15th Feb 2010 15:58

Coventry City have confirmed that striker Jon Stead has moved to the Ricoh Arena on loan until May with a view to a permanent move in the summer.

Sky Blues boss Chris Coleman said: "We've tried a couple of times to get Jon. He has all the attributes to be a very good player for Coventry City and we have worked really hard to get him here.

"We have agreed terms with Jon and it will initially be a loan deal but we will look to make it permanent in the summer because we would like Jon to be here long term.

"Hopefully it's further evidence of what we are trying to achieve and will be another exciting signing for our supporters."

The clubs have agreed a £500,000 fee, according to a report earlier today, although there is no confirmation that such an agreement is in place.

The 26-year-old, who joined the Blues from Sheffield United in the summer of 2008, is contracted to Town until June 2011.

Blueknight Keane could sh1t on your doorstep and you would think it was great ,getting rid of our top scorer hoping others may perform is ridiculous , and if you are talking about off loading deadwood try Martin,Priskin,Healy,Edwards,Bruce and Trotter absolute crap

FECK rite off if Warnock ever came to portman road to work i would assassinate him with a banana
I hold in the same bracket Alan Pardew, Ian holloway, and (although not a manager) Jamie Redknap

It shows how much you know about football then rather have a big name doing nothing than the managers you have listed all succeeding under difficult circumstances

Not really delighted or disappointed with this really.

So long as the loan signings (who remember have had just two games each, one coming off the bench as well) prove their worth then its not a massive loss. If however they don't its a stupid decision.

Keane out................change the record people.

Well good bye Stead you didn't really do a lot so good business Keano got back what we paid if the deal goes ahead in June plus he must av been on some serious wages. Come on Healy everybody know ur a class striker especially at this level so get fit and start banging them in! 3 points tomorrow would do the world of good for confidence the table is sooo tight u never know!!!!!

Surco dont make me chuckle if keane relieved himself on my doorstep id make him eat it. it has nothing to do with football does it...

he is not our top scorer he is joint with walters as it happens, and even then its 6 fricking goals you tart!!!! its nothing to shout about to anyone is it so its hardly reason to not accept a good deal for him if he wants to get better in come summer time especially when we have plenty of cover with 2 experienced strikers still behind heally and murphy a youngster who can hold his own if nothing else and a recall option on kevin lisbie in a catastrophic emergency who would jump at the chance to play in the championship to try and get a deal for next year regardless of how much he may or may not want to play here.
we could bring in some league 2 tart on loan to sit on the bench on steads place if we wanted to untill the summer we wouldn't be any worse off.

i don't like Keane to much... you hate him to much
i have common sense in what has had to happen and what it takes... the rite time to hate him as much as allot of people on here seem to is this time next year if we are in the same position. or if we do actually get relegated

Agree that we wasn't really good enough.

But why give him to a competing club mid-season when we've got a couple of new guys in that we have no idea will perform or not. OK Murphy has started well but Healy hasn't, Wickham looks well short of being ready and Pablo is not really a goalscorer - though I do love him.

Stead would have been good off the bench.

But regardless, you do not loan players to your competitors mid-season unless finances force you to. It's foolish.

Not sure we are competing , we are fighting to get in the play offs , you are fighting to stay in the Division .

Since we find goals hard to come by and are in a relegation fight it is a decision that is hard to comprehend frankly. He does not have great touch but he has scored goals. I think we were looking at Murphy with Stead/Pablo up front and the only proper goal scorer left is Healy who looks a long way off the pace right now. When you look at this decision it makes the Rhodes sale look less surprising since it seems no one is safe from being moved on and maybe that attmosphere of fear is what Keane is trying to create. It suggests again that Keane has little idea what he is doing and with Evans and Clegg having no previous football experience there is no one to stand up to Keane.

The guy scored 6 measly goals...hardly prolific......will hardly be missed

Let the Keane haters moan, he is going nowhere, see all you moaners at Peterboro tomorrow night!!!!

6 goals in 13 starts , not bad in my book .

stead was either brilliant or rubbish but always had a goal in him. I think, if no other strikers come uin, it leaves us very light upfront and if Murphy loses form and none of our other strikers start scoring more we are in trouble. Sods law could mean Murphy gets injured at Peterborough :-(
Hope i'm wrong but i think this is a big gamble at a vital point in our season

It was Keane who said that any average manager could get you mid-table in the Championship. Despite a lot of spending and freedom for him we are a long way short of that right now.

thats the only really good point naa why help a rival team but at the end of the day coventry are 6 points off the play off's so we arent really fighting it out along side them
and if he did start banging in goals for them then they are beating teams we need to catch up
priskin at qpr is more worrying as they are rite there with us but what else could we do with him lol

Prc1987: you are 6 points off the play-off, we are 7 points behind you. What's the difference exactly?

PrC1987 added 17:04 - Feb 15
7 points . Im not having a go , just think we have built a decent side now and hopefully we can push on . Stead adds something different to our attack so we are happy . Good luck though guys .

My point was that you are pushing for play-offs, 6 points away. Which means you consider yourselves to be competing with the teams in the play-offs.

Yet we are 7 points behind you, meaning, by your definition, we could consider yourselves our competitors.

With the division as close as it is, anyone in the middle could easily compete for play-offs or relegation, yourselves included.

We obviously, are not competing for play-offs, but I still consider you to be our competitors.

should of kept stead , i think hes good , but then i would prefer Healy and murphy as the front two . Pablo is so unconsistent .

I suppose youre right , it is too close to call this season , it is crazy . Personally i'll be happy with a few more points to keep us clear of the bottom 3 , but that is because ive followed Coventry for too long , you get very pessimistic . Happy with our squad now though and hope that we can keep climbing, Gary Deegan looks a decent player , i think you were supposed to sign him earlier in the season but it fell through .

"6 goals in 13 starts , not bad in my book"

The Coventry fan on here seems to be the only one looking at things objectively rather than just arbitrarily jumping for joy or shaking his head at every decision Keano makes.

That strike ratio would mean 21 goals if he starts every game in a season. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you that mythical "20 goal a season man" that everyone's always going on about. A bit unrealistic to extrapolate from so few games, I know, but on the other hand if he was playing more often in a settled team it's reasonable to expect that he might have an even better strike rate.

In a settled system he might have even overcome the "either brilliant or terrible" problem (although I always maintain having an attacking player capable of moments of brilliance is always preferable to a solid but boring performer, even if they're naff the rest of the time because matches can easily be won by single moments of inspiration)

Hopefully with Healy and Murphy here we won't miss him too much but other than that it seems a bit strange to let your top scorer go when you're struggling for goals. I guess I'm with the popular view that it's to lighten the wage bill. But whether or not it means someone else is coming in remains to be seen as Murphy and Healy can't be the cheapest loan deals themselves. I trust them to deliver the goods though. They HAVE to now or it's big trouble.
