Keane Confident of More Healy Goals
Keane Confident of More Healy Goals
Wednesday, 24th Feb 2010 02:32

Boss Roy Keane says he is confident that David Healy’s equaliser in Town’s 1-1 draw at Scunthorpe is just the first of many goals from the Northern Irishman. Healy netted after Cliff Byrne had put the Iron in front during the second half at Glanford Park.

Keane said: "It was a real poacher's goal from David and he is capable of that. All good goalscorers score a majority of their goals around the six-yard box.

"He has been disappointed not to have started more games but he has looked sharp in training and I felt that one of our subs would make an impact and David did.

"He's been unfortunate not to score one or two for Sunderland, I've seen incidents where he's been unlucky.

"I think once a goalscorer, always a goalscorer and I think he probably just needs a run of games.

"He's got a decent goal record. Obviously you look at what happened with him at Fulham and Sunderland and sometimes for a striker it doesn't work at a club.

"I've known David from my younger days at Manchester United and he's a goalscorer, you try and find the right level and he's just come a little bit short in the Premiership, but that's no insult to any goalscorer.

"He will probably say he's also not had a run of games. Listen, if you've scored that amount at international level it says a lot about you.

The Blues boss admitted that he was concerned when the home side went in front: "When they got the goal up you thought it was going to be a long battle back. I think we maybe got a little bit of luck with the goal, I don't know but we certainly had chances in the second half.

"Nobody thought it was going to be a classic and when you go one down, we didn't look particularly dangerous in the second half, so we'll take the draw and obviously it stops the opposition from getting maximum points, so it keeps them round and about us.

"Seven points from the four successive away games is a decent return."

Nigel Adkins felt his Scunthorpe side put in a determined display: "The lads have showed another string to their bow in terms of their grit and attitude and the way they adapted to the conditions, they did that very well.

"We've targeted games to win and we were after the three points but the big thing is we've taken something out of the game against a team that is in and around us."

Keep plugging away, lads–no more losses of concentration between now and May.

Big big result that. We couldn't afford to let Scunny climb away from us so it showed real character to get a point after going down so late in the game. Well done lads and well done to those who travelled - saw the goal last night and yet again, looked like a good following considering weather and evening journey.

Now lets get 3 points against City on Saturday and the perilous situation facing this time last week will feel like a lifetime ago.

When you think about it, 7 points from 12 away from home is good so hopefully the Posh result was just a blip! Scunthorpe are a battling side so was never going to be an easy game. Glad that he's got his first goal and hopefully he'll now go on to score more.

7 from a possible 12 away is a decent return - especially when you are struggling.

Good to see Healy getting his goal, as that will take the pressure off him.

Now need to keep the concentration up, stay focussed and win at home on Saturday.

I would have taken that before kick off. Like previous comments, scunny are a battling team and by all accounts the conditions were horrendous. To earn a drawer after going behind shows that they are up for the fight.

Bring on Bristiol City and lets go on another unbeaten run till the end of the season.

The teams around us have some tricky matches Saturday. A win against Bristol plus other matches going to form could see us jump a number of places.

On a different note, anyone see the incident between Wickham and Murphy (the Scunny Keeper)? Something about Wickham blocking a goal kick and Murphy grabbing him round the neck? Both getting yellow cards? Should Murphy have been sent off?

Murphy raised his hands and theoretically that's a straight red. I don't think Wickham did anything illegal although perhaps a little unsporting. I think the keeper was really lucky, but the ref and particularly the lineo on the left of our end made some curious decisions. It was so cold I can only now feel my legs again

On a side note, a mssive well done to the travelling fans. I heard an eskimo walked away from the game because it was that cold!

Wickham tried to block murphy's drop kick so could have been considered dangerous play with a high foot, so technically he can be booked for that. Murphy then practically garrotted Wickham with his bare hands - straight red...Fact!
It was a terrible game of football, but Peterboro result aside, a decent return from 4 away games. This only remains the case as long as we maximise our home advantages. Bristol City on sat is huge!

And yes it was damn cold.....a penguin bit me on the arse on the way out of the ground!

He won't score goals if he's sat on the bench..you've brought him in Roy,give him a decent run in the team.

Yeah, it was a dreadful game, in dreadful conditions, but we should have been home and dry by HT. Walters so unlucky with the one that hit the bar. Happy with the point, as I thought we'd blown it in 2nd half after they scored. Yes, the keeper shud have had a red card and Wickham was doing his best to get sent off afterwards. Why was Daryl Murphy subbed? Do Delaney and Wright practice hoofing on the training ground, as they got it down to a fine art last night? No composure at all.

Healy needs to get his fitness up before he can have a run of games

Agree with all the previous comments that said 7 pts from 12 is a good return, especially considering our position. If someone had offered that to me before the first of the 4 games I'd probably have taken it.

Good to see Healy scoring his first goal, his fitness will come and lets hope the goals come with it too. Between Healy and Murphy, they've already scored four goals this season, not bad bearing in mind they havent been here long at all.

3pts saturday please lads!

2 wins and a draw from 4 away games is pretty good, better still if the players had turned-up 2nd half at Petebog. But how many times this season have we folded or let in a goal sooner after subs come on?

TWTD
Two minutes after Town made their substitution, the home side went in front.

Just a shame that in conditions like last night, crying out for someone to get the ball under control and pass it on the deck, we had guys who were clearly sponsored by Spudulike, who treated the ball like a hot potato.
