Reserves Beat Wycombe
Reserves Beat Wycombe
Tuesday, 2nd Mar 2010 21:05

Goals from Tom Eastman and Lee Martin gave Town’s reserves a 2-1 victory against Wycombe Wanderers at Maidenhead’s York Road on Tuesday evening.

Young central defender Eastman put the Blues in front just before the break, but Wycombe, who included former Town midfielder Matt Bloomfield in their line-up, hit back in the second, a cross slipping through Richard Wright’s hands and Kadeem Harris heading in at the far post.

Lee Martin won the game for Town in the 68th minute with a superb run and finish after receiving the ball from sub David Cawley.

The Blues might have extended their lead late on when Ed Upson was upended in the box but the referee waved away the protests.

Town, who lost 2-1 at home to the same opposition a week ago, enjoyed most of the possession but too often without creating an end product.

Reserves: R Wright, Ainsley, Dunbar, Eastman, Brown, Upson, Hyam, Quinn, Clark (Cawley 60), Martin, Lambe.

Thanks to Terry Roberts.

yeap i've had a think and we have won 9 games this season. lee martn played 3 about minutes of one of those 9 victories. maybe its just pure coincidence but we have failed to win in the 15 other games he has made an appearance. i hope im proved wrong and he is worth £1.5 million and his premiership contract, but at the moment the bare stats and his performances prove otherwise.

Cheltenham - you're right. My comment was a bit tongue in cheek and I'd have put a smiley in if I could. :)

Unfortunately though he has tended to make these sort of basic errors more often that he should in his career (at Arsenal & Everton as well as ITFC) and I think these more than anything else have kept him from the big time success we all hoped he was destined for. In summary - good shot stopper but not so great at commanding his area and giving confidence to the rest of the team.

Don't believe all you read, the report is not quite true. He came for the cross, but couldn't quite get to it, its making it sound like he dropped it!!

Looks like Martin has found his level.
A massive Keane mistake.
