Murphy to Consider Future Over Summer
Murphy to Consider Future Over Summer
Tuesday, 13th Apr 2010 11:23

On-loan striker Daryl Murphy says he will consider his future over the summer once he has ended his loan spell with the Blues. The Republic of Ireland international has scored six goals in 16 games since joining Town on loan from Sunderland at the end of January.

The 27-year-old told the club site: "I've enjoyed it here, I've scored a few goals - should have scored a few more - and played in every game.

"I'll go back to Sunderland at the end of the season and have a holiday, meet up with family and friends and think about the future from there."

Murphy, who has previously said he would be interested in staying at Portman Road, is contracted to the Black Cats until 2012 and manager Roy Keane recently admitted that wages would be the big issue if the Blues were to decide to make Murphy a permanent signing in the summer. Town’s top wage is understood to be around the £12,000-a-week mark, while the striker is believed to be on double that at Sunderland.

Black Cats boss Steve Bruce has said that he would be willing to talk to Town about permanent deals regarding Murphy and fellow loanee David Healy.

Murphy says he feels that Town have the potential to have a much better 2010/11: "I obviously wasn't here at the start of the season when the club went 15 games or so without a win, but I'd say Ipswich is definitely going in the right direction now.

"There is the nucleus of a very good team here and the club is in a position to kick on and move forward next season.

"We have three games left and it's important to finish the season strongly and then push on from there."

Seriously though - if Murphy won't take a wage cut to come to Ipswich, he can rot in Sunderland's reserves and I won't miss him.

If we had the elusive 20 goals a year man, do we have the creativity in the starting 11 to make the chances for him?

I am in two minds re Murphy - yes certainly a good decision to bring him in on loan, and he's done better for us than Stead has for Coventry. But I wouldn't pay huge wages for him.

Firstly no team this season in our league has a 20 goal striker ,so that is not where our problem solely lies we just do not score enough goals as a team especially from midfield .
As for Murphy he is a mercenary who only came here as a last resort and will go anywhere who offers the most ,probably staying at Sunderland on the laughable £24 grand a week that Keane agreed with him there

I wouldnt sign murphy if were gunna pay with OTT wages as hes an avarage player , im sure if we dnt sign him we could do better , i agree with some posters that we should try n get someone like Jackson from gillingham , someone young and hungry and room for improvement , id much rather that then sign some old player from the lower part of the prem that cant get in to thier team.

Beckford ?? and i think we would be stupid not to sign D Ambrose.

All i can say is ROY slow start mediocre finish and thats what was expected to get to know the lads and get them gelling as a team.
You got something right ,WE AINT GOING DOWN !!!
Now lads and lassies whoever comes in and goes im sure ROY doesnt wanna be in this league by the end of next year.
Managers always get the blame but i played for 20 years and you lot also love the game or played!!! But we all know in hind sight the players are at fault aswell ,and if luck is anything to do with aswell, why do you moan ,well all i can say is LETS GRIND NEXT SEASON and see if ROY can get a good spirit in our side.
Im sure the players who we get and play wanna rid of this championship ,the same as we do :) COYB

I cant believe so many negative comments! this is fella who has scored 6 goals in 16 games, by these stats this is a 18-20 goal a season striker which is what everybody has been wanting. Wake up you idiots, if the lad wants to come we should welcome him with open arms. Good luck Murph hope to see you again next season....... Not for 24K though!

Isnt Peter Whittingham top scorer at the moment?? He's a midfielder!! If only we had a high scoring midfielder again, shame we didnt have a chance to sign Ambrose.....oh hang on!!
I think next season will be massive for Connor, Stead in my opinion has a future as a target man with Priskin/Pablo in the mix. I would personally get rid of one of Priskin or Pabs and sign a league1 striker like Lambert or even Bekford from one of the teams that doesn't come up.
As im sure most fans will agree Keano has far from impressed and often bemuses with his decisions (Ambrose, Priskin in/out, Stead, Rhodes) but whats the point changing again and having ANOTHER season of adjustment. Give him his 2nd season and lets all hope and back the team ALL SEASON>???????????

It really is a joke that someone as average as Murphy can earn £1.2m a year, I think we should give Priskin a fair run in pre season and see how he does with wickham and bring in another striker and a winger, I am confident that next season will be an improvement.

Sorry dmotty17 but it was Jim Magilton who didn't keep Darren Ambrose. I have always rated him but, unfortunately, he didn't perform when on loan and so the decision was not unexpected.

Reading the quotes from Murphy, it seems to me that he is of the opinion that he will not be staying with us. I think he is worth keeping but on a much more realistic wage.

£24k a week!!! Jesus effing christ. How does someone whose career amounts to nothing earn that much!!??

After an initial flurry of goals, i think his true quality is starting to show. And that quality is around the same as what we have got in Stead, Priskin, etc. All mildly competent but unremarkable.

What would you rather have? A guy from league one/two who will give his all at progressing his career and feeling privileged to play for ITFC or a player who is on loan from a PL club on big money not really fussed where he plays as long as he has the high contract. I know what i would prefer..

I agree that £24K p/w is a lot of money, but remember that it is the clubs who agree to these terms. Don't blame the player.

And anyone who thinks that managers determine players wages is just plain naive. They may identify players that they want and give an opinion as to their worth, but they do not make the decisions on wages.

Sign Charlie Austin from swindon aswell as Chopra along with Wickham upfront they will bang in the goals that get us promotion
0

welshtractorboy added 09:18 - Apr 14
ben--good shout--Austin would be good, hungry and we would only have to pay him an average wage. Ambrose would walk to PR to sign for us again. QPR want him? We do need a good midfield player, who will score goals. Chopra ? again how much money do Cardiff pay him? remember he came from Sunderland who pay players who cannot get in the first team 24k per week!!!!!

ITFC1985 added 09:48 - Apr 14
someone said they can see Stead as a target man, doesnt he have to be able to win stuff in the air to succeed in that role?

Austin from Swindon would be a very good shout, Ambrose has been very good this season but he was awful when on loan last season absolutely awful

MACKEMYANK added 12:05 - Apr 14
Chopra has to be on lower wages than Murphy. Surely. I am sure Cardiff don't pay him as much as Sunderland did. I think there is a good chance Keane may try and sign him as I know he admires Chopra. Michael Chopra is not well liked at Sunderland - even worse than Murphy !!!!!
