O'Connor and Trotter Offered Deals
O'Connor and Trotter Offered Deals
Friday, 30th Apr 2010 09:55

Town boss Roy Keane has revealed that the Blues have offered contracts to Shane O'Connor, Liam Trotter, Jack Ainsley, Reggie Lambe, Troy Brown and Ian McLoughlin but has confirmed the release of Richard Wright, David Wright, Pim Balkestein, Ed Upson and Devann Yao.

O'Connor, who joined the Blues as a trialist last summer after being released by Liverpool, has been handed a two-year deal while the rest have been offered another season.

Keane says he has been delighted with his fellow Corkman: "He came on trial to the club last summer when he was looking for a chance and he's come in and done well.

"We have offered him a two-year contract because we think he deserves that. Jack Ainsley, Reggie Lambe, Troy Brown and Ian McLoughlin have all been handed one-year extensions.

"I have spoken to all of them and they are delighted to have been offered another year.

"It's important that we have a reserve team full of young players next season. We have had senior professionals playing for the team lately, lads like Pablo, Garvs, Lee Martin and they are too good for that level."

Keane says he is yet to speak to Liam Trotter, who is currently on loan at Millwall: "I will be speaking to Liam and we have offered him a new deal.

"He's done very well while on loan at Millwall and we think the lad has a chance of being a player.

"We've offered him a contract but whether he signs it or not, we will have to wait and see because I'm sure he will have other options."

The Blues boss says it was difficult letting players go: "There have been some very hard decisions to make about good senior professionals, lads like David and Richard Wright who I have decided not to give new contracts.

"It doesn't mean I don't rate them. I do, just like I do with Pim. They will get fixed up with new clubs because they are good players but I have the opportunity to make changes and take this club in another direction and that's what I've got to do.

"With Ed, the lad needs to go out and play games. He's not 18 any more. He's had a taste of it at Barnet and that is what he needs every week."

As well as making decisions on his out of contract players, Keane will also have to decide which of his contracted players he wants to make available in the summer but was remaining tight-lipped on their identities. The Blues boss did confirm, however, that Liam Rosenior wouldn't be offered terms with his loan from Reading up at the end of the season.

Keane has also confirmed that reserves coach Steve Foley will leave the club at the end of the season, while he will speak with Ian McParland next week. Chris Kiwomya will keep his role as U18 coach.

I have to agree Bluebaz! But then Keano spends every day with these players, and obviously sees something we don't.

Good move O'Connoer is a star in the making

Yeah, can't understand the Trotter contract - he is a league 1 player at best.

See in one of this mornings papers Keane's after Clint Hill from Palace..if that's the direction we're heading in then the coming season looks equally as crap as this one.

Come on Marcus..make this all go away and bring back that nice talented Mr Burley.

Gary Neville and Nicky Butt on there way - thats what i've heard

Thats a Joke Lightning Boy yes ? Burley has lost it (Why has he not been employed by the host of other clubs after a manager ?) - Clint HIll one of the better players in this league in an average side.

Having spoken with people at the club, it has changed beyond comparison in the last 6 months, from the small town laid back chilled wine in the fridge club , to a hard edged purposely run one. Might not be everyones cup of tea however the way it was being run didn't do us much good for the past 30 years two seasons apart !

trotter has apparently been excellent at Millwall and is still young why not offer him a year?
even if Garvan stays thats only 2 back up options for CM with Colback going home.
Billy clark will go out on loan i imagine

So what about the likes of the "dead wood"

being Bruce, Garvan, Counago, Lisbie, Stead, C.Healy and Quinn

and is he going to persist with the likes of

Martin, Edwards and Priskin

to justify the outlay???

and has Rosenior definately bitten the bullet??

I agree that O'Connor is great prospect but puzzled about Trotter as there's no point in signing him just to loan out but maybe his time at Millwall has brought him back into the picture! Maybe the play-offs will tell us more.

So we're keeping Trotter but ditching David Wright? Sure that makes sense.

Feel a bit sorry for Yao - he seems like a kid who just needs a break. When he signed someone posted a like to his facebook site and he was really happy to be here and have a chance to prove himself.

Upson is another who probably just needs a break - I think he will have a professional career.

Am interested that we are keeping Lambe and Ainsley - I have heard good things about these two and hope that they are given a chance to prove themselves.

Finally - Trotter. I am sick of hearing people slag the lad off. He had some up and down games this season but has been an ever present for a Millwall side which is pretty close to promotion. He caught a very bad break when he got sent off against Portsmouth and never recovered from the, However, he is an IPSWICH lad - born and bred and I would like to see the TRUE ipswich fans get behind one of our won - I am sick of the way that we turn on some of this kids - Richards, Scowcroft etc and can't understand it. On one had we get all the crap about managers not bringing through the youth and then when they do the kids get abuse - its just crazy

I am pleased we are keeping Lambe and Ainsley, i watch the reserves when i can and both look good prospects, plus like Trotter, Ainsley is a local lad and we should get behind them! Trotter has done well at Millwall from what i hear

Any news on Rosenior? Trotter a strange one but I will never understand the managers thinking.

Must admit, very surprised that Trotter is being given another one year contract. It didn't work out last season so I'm not sure what's changed.

He may come good I suppose - he has all the necessary attributes - but he showed no sign of improvement this season.

Glad O'Conner is getting two years - I've been impressed with him and hope he'll be a regular this year to get him more experience.

releasing David Wright? Without even offering him a contract? Seriously? Even if we're planning on signing a new starting right-back, why release a good performer at this level who can play on the left and the right? Who are we going to get who would be a better value squad player?

Trotter... good grief Roy, not saying he is a bad player, he proves himself consistently in League One as being someone who can play. Can't do that in the Championship and definitely not in the Premiership, which we will not get to with RK in charge I don't think.

What is it with people on here about Gary Neville!! he has just signed a contract with manure and will prob go into coaching there after, another one butt?? what are we wanting? a veterans 11?

David Wright must be feeling a bit down today with Trotter getting a new deal ?

I like many others am very suprised at the release of David Wright.

What about Devann Yao? He has only recently joined us and didn't we jump through hoops to get him resulting in compensation payments to a number of his previous clubs?

I'm not sure I see the link between D Wright and Trotter.

They play in different positions, they are of completly different age and I can guarentee you that Wright earns a damn site more than Trotter.

I don't see why Wright should be feeling any different to Trotter getting a contract than Ainsely, Lambe or McLoughlin !!

difference between david wright and trotter is that trotter is still young, not much harm really to bring him back for one more season, would force a transfer fee if he signs it. however, thats just me trying to workout why he's been offered one, he's been poor whenever i've seen him so it's a puzzler!!

very pleased about o'connor though, think he could be a real top quality fullback!!

also hope we keep mcparland, can't see how too much overhaul of the coaching staff is going to help, will practically be like starting over again, we need to keep a basis of current players and staff in order to push on next season!

I think Keane is spot on.....
O'Conner has potential and can only improve.
Trotter, regardless of what anyone says on here. I think this lad is decent. He is big, strong, has good technique, can tackle, can head and is POTENTIALLY a Huddlestone. He played for town when the WHOLE TEAM were under-performing, and therefore everyone on here judges him during that period. Look at the stick Delaney and Macauley got at that time and look at your opinions now.....
Trotter WILL be a success at town so quit your quick judgement and back the lad.....the only Ipswich born outfield player we have at present.

No he isn't add Luke Hyam and Jack Ainsley to that Ipswich born list!
