O'Connor and Trotter Offered Deals
O'Connor and Trotter Offered Deals
Friday, 30th Apr 2010 09:55

Town boss Roy Keane has revealed that the Blues have offered contracts to Shane O'Connor, Liam Trotter, Jack Ainsley, Reggie Lambe, Troy Brown and Ian McLoughlin but has confirmed the release of Richard Wright, David Wright, Pim Balkestein, Ed Upson and Devann Yao.

O'Connor, who joined the Blues as a trialist last summer after being released by Liverpool, has been handed a two-year deal while the rest have been offered another season.

Keane says he has been delighted with his fellow Corkman: "He came on trial to the club last summer when he was looking for a chance and he's come in and done well.

"We have offered him a two-year contract because we think he deserves that. Jack Ainsley, Reggie Lambe, Troy Brown and Ian McLoughlin have all been handed one-year extensions.

"I have spoken to all of them and they are delighted to have been offered another year.

"It's important that we have a reserve team full of young players next season. We have had senior professionals playing for the team lately, lads like Pablo, Garvs, Lee Martin and they are too good for that level."

Keane says he is yet to speak to Liam Trotter, who is currently on loan at Millwall: "I will be speaking to Liam and we have offered him a new deal.

"He's done very well while on loan at Millwall and we think the lad has a chance of being a player.

"We've offered him a contract but whether he signs it or not, we will have to wait and see because I'm sure he will have other options."

The Blues boss says it was difficult letting players go: "There have been some very hard decisions to make about good senior professionals, lads like David and Richard Wright who I have decided not to give new contracts.

"It doesn't mean I don't rate them. I do, just like I do with Pim. They will get fixed up with new clubs because they are good players but I have the opportunity to make changes and take this club in another direction and that's what I've got to do.

"With Ed, the lad needs to go out and play games. He's not 18 any more. He's had a taste of it at Barnet and that is what he needs every week."

As well as making decisions on his out of contract players, Keane will also have to decide which of his contracted players he wants to make available in the summer but was remaining tight-lipped on their identities. The Blues boss did confirm, however, that Liam Rosenior wouldn't be offered terms with his loan from Reading up at the end of the season.

Keane has also confirmed that reserves coach Steve Foley will leave the club at the end of the season, while he will speak with Ian McParland next week. Chris Kiwomya will keep his role as U18 coach.

Agree with yorkshire, anyone who booed Trotter should be ashamed of themselves. An product of our youth system who was also born in the town should never been booed. I'm against booing your own players anyway, but especially in the case of academy graduates like him and Richards (who whatever his faults, was an honest trier who never hid and gave his best) its particularly disgraceful. When I tell friends who support other clubs that our academy graduates such as these have been booed they often express amazement that a club with such a good reputation as ours actually has fans like this.

HarwichBlue...you honestly think that what's going on now is an improvement on what Burley built here 15 years ago?!..you must either be 8 years old or have a very selective memory.

Keane doesn't know his arse from his elbow.

What a waste of time and effort to sign that Devann Yao, just to release him a few months later.

Does anyone remember Alan Quinn. Never seems to get a mention either staying or going. Has he already gone? Did I miss something?

wft has Quinn being Irish got to do with anything - if you follow your line of logic then surely he would be in the team as Keane only signs Irish and ex-Sunderlands players

@Lighting - I agree that Burely will remain a god for getting us promotion, but when push came to shove what he had "Built" crumbled pretty quickly inot administration don't you remember ? Burley promised us the earth and gave us a handful of sand, bit harsh I know, but he built promotion on a TEAM and added the likes of Resuer & Marcus but when we went up the fabric of teh club was not stable enough to support us for more than one season. Please done get me wrong I loved his football and promotion and Europe, but we all agree it was a fairy tale and when Finidi and Sereni came in it all went poop, because behind the scenes things were not what they seemed. Burely is a god for what he did, but Rome wasn't built in a day.

Keane is trying to change it , fair play to him, I hope he succeeds. Remember GB took a couple of years to get it right also ? so all I say is give him a fair crack of the whip and do not think that everone is star struck & diluded !

All together now - UP THE FOOTBALL HERE WE GO

P.s. Been a towan follower for +40 years - do the maths !!

Yes : the Devann Yao signing has been another triumph for the man himself. Also surprised at Trotter : as much as I'd like him to succeed ( I know his dad) he has had several goes and does not seem to realise that a long-term professional football career will not just fall into his lap : a lot more effort required. In fact, he's similar to Garvan in that respect. I really can't see Ainsley, Brown, McLoughlin or Lambe coming through so am also surprised that they've got another year. No surprise with Upson : non-league beckons I'm afraid.

So bennyblue, anyone who holds a viewpoint contrary to your own is a fool, are they? Interesting.

Anyway Keane's given himself two years to get us up, he's halfway through it, and should he fail in that I fully expect that the anti-Keane brigade to get their wish this time next year. If he gets us promoted, will anyone be complaining then?

I don't have the gift of foresight so let's enjoy the journey if we can and find out together...

Trotter ?? Seriously ?? One of the worst players i've seen pull on a Town shirt.

I would add to the chorus that David Wright should not have been released. Not a world beater admittedly, but perfectly reasonable at this level and always gives 100%.

Still 100% behind Roy though and happy he will be leading us next year. and really believe we will challenge at the right end next season witha few decent additions.

Meant to add that i am hoping that the Trotter offer might just be to get a fee for him, though i thought that last year when we snatched him back from Scunthorpe.

Would be a pretty unethical way of operating if that is the case. "Sign for us again son'....."Thanks......now pack your bags !". Not sure that's how we'd operate and i hope not.

I just hope he signs for Millwall.

I'm guessing that David Wright is in high wages and Trotter is on low wages...

Marcussg. What are you trying to say? What that Trotter is not a good player? Clearly you didnt see him play in Felixstowe and district league back in 2004. Try being a real fan and get behind the club and stop critiscising RK's decsions!

I agree with Yorkshire , Trotter has potential.... and why some quarters are questioning why we have offered a contract is beyond me, prob all the booo boys. Pat yourself on the back numbtys.

I don't see why people keep giving Trotter such stick. He is 21! A lot of ‘League 1 player at best', yes probably and at 21 that means he'll mature into a good Championship player if not better. Give the lad a chance, a defensive midfielder is a position that requires experience, which by going out on loan, he is getting.

Trooter is wanted by Millwall he is out of contract he is also at the age if we offer a contract and he signs for Millwall they have to pay us a fee....simple.

D. Wright good man but we can do better....R. Wright great goalkeeper the oon I would have liked to have seen being kept and keeping Murphy on his toes...but a high earner for us and we need to release his wages...that is a pity. The rest RK see's day in and day out so will trust his judgement over anyone posting on this board.

HarwichBlue - George Burley has lost it? You're a muppet....still one of the best managers around....if he had got the support from the Scottish FA Scotland would have been in the world cup. Why hasn't he got another job yet? Did you think he might want to take a break for a while after the way he was treated by the SFA and hasn't applied for any of the positions? If RK leaves I would bite your arm off to get GB back here.

Glad that Trotter has been ofered an extention to his contract. At the start of the season he was the whipping boy for a team that was simply dreadful and hopefully going out on loan will have given him more experience and confidence. The lad has potential if nurtured correctly. It does also show that Keane doesnt also rate players in terms of how much running around they do!

Glad that young Shane has been given a 2 year deal, one of the few bright lights from this season.
