Keane Set to Appoint Assistant Manager
Keane Set to Appoint Assistant Manager
Friday, 30th Apr 2010 11:09

Boss Roy Keane has revealed that he will be looking to add an assistant manager to his coaching staff during the close season. Keane is seeking to shake-up his backroom with specialist skills coach Steve Foley’s contract not being renewed.

Keane said: “I’ll be looking to bring in an assistant manager over the next few months and I’ve got one or two people in mind for that, so changes will be made in the backroom staff.”

Earlier in the season, the Blues boss was close to appointing Peter Taylor to his coaching ranks, although not as an assistant manager. Taylor was interested in a role as Keane's deputy but not one working alongside the club's other coaches. The former England boss is now manager at Bradford City and so is firmly out of the running.

The Town manager says he will be keeping U18 coach Chris Kiwomya at the club, while he will speak to Ian McParland, who he brought to the club earlier in the season, about his future next week. The former Notts County boss underwent a double hip operation yesterday and Keane will visit him next week.

Specialist skills coach Steve Foley will be leaving the club with Keane grateful for his work during his time at the club: “We won’t be renewing Steve’s contract.

"It was a tough decision because Steve’s a good man and has been very good to me since I came in, even at the start of last season and he’s done a good job with the reserves, but there are areas of the staff I need to look at and try and make changes there. But he’s a very good man and a football man.”

Nicky Butt? I think Keano needs a wise old head to bring some experience to the bench, someone with a proven coaching past, not Nicky bloody Butt...

Nicky Butt as player/asst manager could be good call. However, would his authority on the pitch clash with that of the Captain? Perhaps he could take over the armband from Walters as well.

..bennyblue..your comments are sadly falling on some very deaf ears..unfortunately there's not many of us on here who have been proved correct in the awful decision to appoint Keane in the first place..I for one haven't been dazzled by the name and want someone better, who's going to do things properly....I can see into the future..november 2010 W 3,D 8,L4..town still fannying around in the lower half..keane worshippers still saying he needs time.......

He can't work with people..that's why he keeps changing assistant managers,coaches,players...look in the mirror Roy..maybe it's just you.

Bennyblue, Lightning boy - you need to wake up a bit. Keane has made massive strides this season. The poor start was simply down to attempting to work with the dead wood magilton left and a combination of blending a lot of new players in. The second half of this season HAS proved that keano knows what he's doing. We now have a very strong foundation on which to build for promotion push next season. One or two additions, ideally 2 full backs, oe or two proven goalscorers possibly a left sided midfield player and we will have a very very good championship side. With wets brom and newcastle out of the division, hull, burnley and pompey will struglle next season I think we have every chance. In Keano we trust. COYB!

There's one good man manager who'll be out of work come the end of the season - although I think that he is a strong favourite to take over at Rochdale...........

Ashleyblue, at last someone who talks sense. Give Keane a chance. The squad we had (20 players) was full of dead wood and of course it will take time to clear the decks and re build. The problem with a lot of people on here is they are happy to be 6 or 7th all season and miss out on the play offs. We have had a poor season but we haven't gone down and we are now in a position where the squad is thin enough so the core can be players Keano wants. I don't want an average season. I want promotion as Champions and Keano will deliver! In Keano we trust

hes clearing the deadwood to replace it with cardboard even lower next season taking bets now anyone its probably evens he spits the dummy and walks out on us 10 games into the season after another mauling by norwich or doncaster

SMS I admire your blind unquestioning loyalty. One point you appear to have missed, what about the dead wood that Keane signed? Or do they full into a different category?? He has signed loads of players and spent loads of money and we have more dead wood than before Keano got here!

I maybe wrong, Have the 3 teams that are going all had new managers this season, maybe suggesting that a new manager's first season is very tough

For those of you who belive in omen's, in 1990-91 we drew 18 games that season.

In 1991-92 we won the league, maybe history will repeat itself!!!

Errrm ...isn't that just exactly what people were saying before the start of THIS season?
