Tottenham Make Wickham Bid
Tottenham Make Wickham Bid
Monday, 3rd May 2010 15:27

Tottenham have made Town a £5 million offer for 17-year-old striker Connor Wickham. The Londoners want to sign the frontman during the summer with a view to loaning him back to the Blues for the 2010/11 season.

On Friday, manager Roy Keane refused to disclose whether the Blues had received an offer for the England U17 international, who signed a two-year professional contract last month.

A week previously Keane said he would be lynched by supporters if he were to allow the biggest talent to emerge from the academy in years to leave so soon.

The offer may be considered by owner Marcus Evans and chief executive Simon Clegg, however, they may feel that Wickham could be worth even more in a year’s time after a full season in the Championship, with plenty of other Premier League clubs, including Liverpool, Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal, all understood to have been eyeing the 6ft 3in tall striker.

Wickham is happy at the club and has said he is in no hurry to leave having ended the season by netting three goals in his last five games.

Obviously I'd like to see Wickham stay and get us promoted and/or sell him for £30m, but...

£5m's a fair bit, and if it was the opening offer (assuming there's anything in this...)

If he's as a good as we think he could be he'll be gone soonish anyway; he only has 2 years on his contract.

£5m+ and loaned back for a season isn't terrible business IMO.

To all the people mentioning Gio - even if we did get him back, the chances are that keane would stop playing him as he's far too talented and creative and entertaining for a keane team.

Not going to happen. Gio's not coming back, Wickham isn't going for £5m and Chopra's not coming in....

But what do I know?

.... I'll tell you what I do know .....

You'll never get rich spending all your money and you'll never have a Great Team if you sell all your stars . . . .

$5 million really wouldnt make much difference to us would it?? Connor Wickham will. If Wickham has a good season next year like we all expect he will be worth far more so why sell now even with the loan back. Plus lets just say we DO get promoted then Wickham will be the 1 player we need to keep and have a chance with in the Prem and with him playing for us in the Prem and all the exposure his price would sore!! So for me it would make very little sense to sell at this point in time, the boy is still young and will have plenty of time to move to a huge club in the future.

According to the Mirror, Connor's grown an extra inch and Tottenham have offered an extra million.

If growing an inch adds a million, start stretching him now. Imagine how much he'd be worth if we got him another foot taller! ;o)

So that explains why people keep spending money on Crouch lol.

We cant afford Gio. Fee or wages.

There is no way he will go for 5 million, but if the bid is real then I am glad the starting price was 5 because if he goes as well as many think he will that fee will only get bigger.

Keane kicks out Bryan Klug, Klug goes to Tottenham Ipswich lose Wickham. Ipswich also lose all the other talented youngsters who would have joined us but now want to be coached at Tottenham by the best Youth coach in the Country. Simon Clegg is such an ignorant pratt.

for 5m you could get chopra and hooper and still have 1m to spent that would be are strikers sorted

£5m would not only inlcude fees but wages as well for any players bought in. So I would want more then 5M, and I would not want to sell him.

Any hot prospect that goes to Tottenham invariably gets their career destroyed. Wayne Routledge, Sean Davis, Kyle Naughton, Kyle Walker, John Bostock. Where are these players now?! Their careers have not progressed at all at Tottenham. Forget it, plus there is no benefit to a loan back deal as his value is likely to rise following what we hope will be a prolific season.

5 million is not enough. Nearer to 10 plus add-ons, sell-on clause and next season at PR is getting warmer. Where are you going to find another English centre forward of that quality for anywhere near 5 million? I'd be very disappointed if that happened. I thought the days of us being a soft target in the transfer market were over?

ME and RK are not stupid, how much does reaching the premier league generate?? 20-30m? why would they jepordise that for the sake of 5m? everyone keeps talking about how much of a business guru ME is so this seems like a silly offer and it is silly season now everything has been pretty much sorted. Also to all the people that say he should go for 10-15 million, how many people in the championship go for more than 5m?

I'd say £5 million is a reasonable estimation of Wickham's current worth. He's played occasionally for his first season. Go back to Kieron Dyer who played 2 whole seasons for us to elevate his value to £6 million. From that £6 million we bought 4 players (Stewart, Jamma, McGreal, Magilton?). I doubt £5 million will buy us 4 quality players this time round, especially as we need quality strikers desperately, which aren't cheap. No deal. £5 million is reasonable but we need stupid bids of £10+ million. There's enough club owners with more money than sense, it's worth holding out for one of them to offer silly. Besides if Wickham scores 20 next season his value would double.

Wickham will not go
As for Gio - forget - if he is at Galatasary now why would he come to us
Oh I forgot we have Roy Keane - that will attract him
Alot of players join clubs for the Management and what they can learn - anyone who looked at this season - I question we will attract many
Which is why I think an ASST MANAGER is the key role for us to get sorted
Leave Keane to walk the Dog and use him as a sideshow attraction at ME Corporate events- infact forget Asst and make Keane the asst and bring in a Manager - the Japanese style of management

Get used to it blues fans, we're going to have a long summer of this type of story and we'll also be linked with over 100 different strikers. Wait till you hear it from Roy

£5 million plus a season long loan is not a bad initial bid! Heaven forbid, but if CW sustained a long term injury what would he be worth to us next year? We all know that we are missing a 20 + a season goalscorer - We could use money like this to fund such a striker and still keep Connor to help us into the Premiership.

It seems to me that Spurs have come in as early as possible with a very attractive offer in order to usurp the other top premiership clubs from trying to sign him. As it seems that money talks and loyalty walks in our beautiful game, wouldn't it make sense to wait and see what other offers come in for Connor. If we do end up selling him because the offer is to good to refuse we should at least allow a bidding war to commence so we get the best price for him.

No No No...

Give us Gio on loan, 8 mil (rising to 10m with 1st cap)and CW on loan ALL next season including play offs if needed and thats a deal in my book.
