Tottenham Make Wickham Bid
Tottenham Make Wickham Bid
Monday, 3rd May 2010 15:27

Tottenham have made Town a £5 million offer for 17-year-old striker Connor Wickham. The Londoners want to sign the frontman during the summer with a view to loaning him back to the Blues for the 2010/11 season.

On Friday, manager Roy Keane refused to disclose whether the Blues had received an offer for the England U17 international, who signed a two-year professional contract last month.

A week previously Keane said he would be lynched by supporters if he were to allow the biggest talent to emerge from the academy in years to leave so soon.

The offer may be considered by owner Marcus Evans and chief executive Simon Clegg, however, they may feel that Wickham could be worth even more in a year’s time after a full season in the Championship, with plenty of other Premier League clubs, including Liverpool, Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal, all understood to have been eyeing the 6ft 3in tall striker.

Wickham is happy at the club and has said he is in no hurry to leave having ended the season by netting three goals in his last five games.

He has scored in pretty much every game he has started hasnt he?! Therefore if the owner wants us to get promoted he needs to keep him....surely? he'l score 20 goals next season and be worth more...

Expect this to be another news paper story blown out of proportion. But what worries me is that If this was true would you trust Roy Keane with 5million to waste, he certainly has not spent any of Marcus Evans money wisely over the past 12 months.

he's going to go.

Its just to whom and when. 5 mill and loaned back is better than 6 mill + and gone for good, especially if spurs pay a % of his wages.

Its not a bad offer to consider and play hard ball with. 5 mill is also more than keane will have to spend this year.

Oxblue, what about £5million for Wickham & loaned back next season, & Gio at a cut price of £2million permanent transfer as part of the deal?

£5M is indeed a lot of money, but as the article says he may be worth even more in a year's time. I really hope we do not sell him for three reasons:

1) It is unlikely to be money up front but rather staged payments based on performances, goals, international appearances,top-ups etc.
2) the money goes into Marcus Evans' pot and would not necessarily mean the whole amount is available for new transfers;
3) Keane's record in the transfer market is so awful that he would probably blow the money.

if he is sold, i'd automatically become a hater of RK. RK good manager no doubt i back him, but after selling Rhodes, Wickham would be a step too far, good lad with a great future ahead of him. More money then you could decide

He wont be worth more next year even if he does score 20 goals...

he will only have a year left on his contract based on a £5mill value now we would get 2-3 mill if there is more than one club interested as 6 months after that he can sign a pre contract with a club for a free transfer.

Baring in mind he is only 17 and not really proved anything past the level of the likes of Billy Clarke (The old one) and Dean Bowditch and could still be a bigger flop than than Damien Delaney at LB....taking anything in and around 5mill with some top ups would be nothing but incredibly sensible business
unless you have money to throw away.
If you didn't accept it you would be close to insane or just extremely sentimental to the point where you don't care about bankruptcy.

we could get get Hooper, Ambrose and chopra for £5mill with maybe 1 mill on top 400,000 of which should be coming from Stead

Its been bad enough this season without selling more of the family jewels. If he keeps on improving at the rate he is, then who is going to replace him? Go play with your accountant Rednapp or Wii resort. The only decent thing about Rednapp is his daughter-in - law.

if they offered £5 million with him coming back on loan for the season and Gio on a permanent then id take that, but nothing less.

I hope this dose not happen. on sky sports the think that in 3 years he could be as good a Rooney

A lynching would be too kind if you did sell him Keane. Not a frickin' chance. You don't sell Rhodes to let Wickham through and then sell Wickham after a handful of games. End of.

for me this is a tough one, whilst he shows great promise, so did Billy Clarke and Dean Bowditch but they failed to deliver. he has only jus turned 17 and so we shouldn't expect too much from him next season, but the reason we do is because of the way he has started so far, he has showed maturity beyond his years so far in his performances and shows a desire and a hunger that couldn't be further away from the disinterested priskin. surely if the story is true then 5 million is just a starting bid, if he was loaned back to us that would be a bonus, plus of course could GIO be thrown into the equation too?? could be interesting, id personally like wickham to stay and think he'll do well next season

Really hope its not true, it would be foolish to sell him now, but should they decide to sell him, both my Season Ticket and Blues Foundation Direct Debits will be cancelled immediately!!

Please don't sell him, the likes of gunter and bostock who have gone there recently, have been rotting in the reserves or bombed out, the same that will happen to kyle naughton and kyle walker from sheffield united well end up the same.

Take it and use it on a proven goalscorer. Sorry you deluded lot but he is not currently worth £5m. Yes he a decent youngster and with the right coaching COULD go on to be a good player in the premiership but Bowditch was the best thing since slice bread and look where he is now

And please get real some of you - this decision - if there is a decision to make - will not be made by Keane. It will be down to ME and Simon Clegg

And can anyone honestly think that Wickham will play the majority of games next season. Dont think so. Will be lucky to play up to a half of them if that

£5million - take it now and get an experienced striker in who will last the season and not suffer burn out!

give us sum cash and gio, otherwise you can f right off, harry would just treat him like dirt on his shoe anyway.... if he goes then all hope is pretty much lost! keane has got pretty lucky that hes done so well, without his goals the table would look far worse for us.

Mmmmmm. Okay - £5m, plus add ons, back on loan for next year, options on loan players, etc. Sure we could do business. Unless we shape up, he will go anyway. We are a selling club realistically and nuture talent who move on, with us making some money. That is us I'm afraid and if we are going to be paying £10k a week top whack - that's life: we cannot compete with Prem clubs - full stop.

RK will look at this - £5m would buy Chopra and Murphy, and we'd still have Connor for next season - once up, it's big money time.

Those that say - don't sell - get real lads....
