"Wayne played wherever he wanted to. I can't stop Wayne playing there. I think that he holds a lot more experience at international football than me as an international manager.Using his experience with a team, and playing as a team member, it's not for me to say where he's going to play. I must admit, he did play a little deeper than I thought he'd play today, but I was pleased with his performance."
Unusual comments from a football manager. Honest I suppose, but I can't imagine Brian Clough saying that, or Mick McCarthy come to that. :-)
That is the first time I officially read that (in Milne's Star interview).
According to www.itfc.co.uk/team/ we have 3 goalkeepers, 7 defenders, 11 midfielders and 5 strikers. I presume those are the players in mind when the average is mentioned. That list includes Crowe, Emmanuel, Kenlock, Dozzell, McDonnell, and McLoughlin who would be on very little money I would guess, so I suppose senior players are on more like 9K-10K. Take out cheaper ones like Digby, Coke and Varney, and it must mean the more valuable players are on a bit more than I thought.
