Hartlepool End Interest in Healy
Hartlepool End Interest in Healy
Monday, 7th Jun 2010 11:27

Hartlepool United are reported to have decided against making another move for Town midfielder Colin Healy. The Blues gazumped Pools last summer when they signed the former Ireland midfielder from Cork City, matching the League One side's €100,000 offer with the 30-year-old close to putting pen to paper on a deal at Victoria Park.

Hartlepool targeted Healy again in January when they considered bringing him in on loan, but withdrew their interest and the ex-Celtic man returned to Scotland to spend the rest of the season at Falkirk.

Healy, who has a year left on his Town contract, is understood to have been told he has no future with the Blues, but according to reports in the North-East, Hartlepool have decided not to make a renewed move for the Cork-born midfielder, despite being alerted to his availability by his agent.

Healy, who Scottish reports recently linked with Aberdeen, has made only five starts for the Blues since his move to Suffolk last July.

Meanwhile, former Blue Marcus Stewart has decided to play one more season for League One Exeter City. Stewart, now 37, is also a coach with the Grecians and says that 2010/11, his 20th season, will be his last, having initially decided to retire two years ago.

id forgotten hartlepool had actually agreed a fee for him....i always thought roy was just doing cork a financial favour by taking him, but if hartlepool were already ready to pay the same amount for him, it makes this transfer even worse....shocker

yeah, good point. A totally unecessary transfer and one that was bad for Ipswich, Healy and Hartlepool.

Certainly not the best move we've made, however I guess Roy was hoping he'd come good. Shame he didn't !

I can't say I blame 'em for deciding against it.

Shame, that's closed a potential escape route for CH. Appears to be well out of the picture at ITFC, and possibly on too high a wage to move down a level. Hopefully a solution can be found, or alternatively CH comes back and works his socks off during pre-season to force his way back into the first team fold.

What people are not aware of , is that Roy Keane actually stumped up the transfer fee for Healy, himself and it was NOT ITFC that footed this bill !!

Might as well have put 100,000 in a bin and set the thing on fire.

Colin Healy hasnt got what it takes at this level and never had.Im sure Roy Keane meant well but I think he let his heart rule his head with one.

They've realised what a lucky (£100,000) escape they've had!!!

We have had this debate on a number of occasions. Healy COULD have turned out to be a good signing - as a number of players have been for other clubs. At such a low fee it was worth a risk, which sadly didn't work out.

It may have been a low fee, but 100grand is still not an amount to be used lightly. Plus we would have had to pay his wages which could have been used on another player. I bet his wages were higher than all the younger players that keane decided to let go - a certain j Rhodes maybe?
And was another central midfielder really needed at the time????
Just another of many poor decisions that makes me say "in keane we don't trust".
