Town Dismiss Lazio Friendly Reports
Town Dismiss Lazio Friendly Reports
Monday, 7th Jun 2010 11:49

Town have dismissed Italian reports claiming that Lazio will play the second friendly agreed as part of the Matteo Sereni transfer later this summer. The Rome club committed to playing two games at Portman Road at their expense when Sereni, who now plays his football with Torino, joined them on what was otherwise a free transfer in 2003.

The Blues are understood to have been in contact with the Italian club, who won the first friendly 2-0 in 2006, but so far nothing has been agreed regarding the second game.

A club spokesman told TWTD: “We are yet to finalise our full pre-season schedule. However, I can confirm that at this stage, there are no plans to host a match against Lazio ahead of the new League campaign.”

Town are expected to announce further details of their pre-season programme this week, with friendlies against West Ham at Portman Road on Friday 31st July and at Southend's Roots Hall on Friday 9th July already confirmed.

Dutch reports over the weekend linked the Blues with a friendly against PSV in Eindhoven on Saturday 17th July, but so far neither club has confirmed that the game will take place.

'Old on a minute lads, I've got a plan... we'll stage a match at Lazio, right, hire this bus and three minis and using the game as cover....

I thought this had been settled some time ago. Evidently not. Didn't we start legal proceedings at some point?

This is frankly a ridiculous situation (seven years to organise a pre-season friendly?) and it would be best to come to some sort of financial arrangement than to let this drag on endlessly.

I wish we could get this bloody friendly out of the way so that I never have to read the words "Matteo Sereni" ever again.

Totally agree. A small fee totalling what we may have taken from afriendly would be just the job. Good for Lazio - good for us.
