Huddersfield: No Contact With Town
Huddersfield: No Contact With Town
Tuesday, 8th Jun 2010 13:42

Huddersfield Town boss Lee Clark says he has made no contact with the Blues regarding striker Jon Stead. Over the weekend, reports in West Yorkshire claimed that Stead was set for talks with the Terriers, his hometown club and where he started his career.

Clark says there has been no dialogue with the Blues regarding the 27-year-old: "I haven’t contacted Roy Keane about Jon Stead."

Stead looks set to leave Portman Road this summer, having spent the second half of the season on loan at Coventry.

The Sky Blues looked set to sign the former England U21 international on a permanent basis, with a fee of £400,000 having been agreed between the clubs, until manager Chris Coleman was sacked and replaced with Aidy Boothroyd.

Elsewhere, Welsh reports claim Cardiff could try to push Town to offer as much as £4.5 million for Michael Chopra, however, we understand that their valuation is closer to the £4 million mark which the Blues are reportedly set to bid for the 26-year-old ex-Sunderland and Newcastle man.

With regards to Chopra and the fee. If Cardiff push for £4.5m then I would tell them to swivel. Yes he can score goals but come on. They know we are desperate for a goal scoring striker but surely we are not going to be held to ransome.

Go for Charlie Austin from Swindon. Younger, can score goals and wont cost the stupid amount wanted for Chopra

Can't see Austin staying at Swindon with Paynter gone - looks like Cr=ardiff will get a decent replacement for Chopra and mega bucks - thought we were throwing in Garvan too?

Of course this news with Stead going to Huddersfield cannot be true. The only way they can get him will be on loan. Even if we lower or price they cannot pay his wages.

stead to hudders. would be a good deal for them, not for him....hes not a league one player at all, id say keep him, hes the most natural finisher we have at the club at this time

Wickham is the most natural/gifted finisher we have

I'd be surprised if Stead went to Huddersfield. His wages are likely to be an obstacle and he may not want to drop down to league one. That said, he has a young family and if there is extended family in the area then this may influence any decision.

Re Chopra. £4m is a lot of money and I would be alarmed if we went any higher than that. There is a lot of risk in such a deal and a return would be vital. What if he didn't score or were to get injured a few games in? For £4m, RK could acquire two or three very good players and spread the risk.

Oi Keane, keep Stead, buy Chopra & Quinn making a front four using Wickham if you get to keep him.

Suffolk_n_Good added 14:39 - Jun 8
I would love to see Chopra, think he would be a dream alongside Wickham, but I agree mungo, £4m has got to be the limit, we cannot be held to ransom over him.

wickham is NOT our most natural finsisher....some fans overate him so much. The only reason everyone thinks hes magic is because hes 17...if he was 20+ you would say get rid of him hes useless...some home games he has had some shockers (im not blaming him, because of his age) but the amount of wayward shots he has that end up in the stands, stead is a better finisher.....but i do obviosuly want wickham to stay, but along with stead

Chopra is being turned into some sort of god by some of you lot......Seriously for 4m we could sign a foreign striker twice as good and still have change to buy bailey and austin. Keane apart from wasting money on players who dont work out, pays far too much as well.
He's not going to sign good players from lower leagues if they are not scouted properly, a practice that seems to have been abandoned. The scouting system now is, the same as at sunderland, roy played with them, they played under roy or they are irish, in some cases multiples of the three.

Greg halford said that keane chased him for 8 months, when he finally signed he asked keane how many times he'd watched him play........keane changed the subject without answering. Halford was given 17 games by keane...similar story with an amazing number of keanes signings. large money paid, very few games, bombed out. Seriously, even the irish ex manu players... And dont tell me he made some good signings....when you buy nearly 60 players odds are half a dozen will work out even if you buy them randomly.

Wickam

He's good for one thing only, and that's getting involved in meaningless arguements that don't concern him. We can do a lot better, believe me.

ChambersM, what games have you been watching? I sit front row of the top tier of the north stand and the ammount of times Stead has almost hit me is unbelievable. One of the worst finishers, or most incconsisent, I've ever seen.

How anyone can dispute that Connor Wickham>Jon Stead is beyond me. Plebs.

Firstly, shame Huddersfield don't want Stead - too inconsistent. More poor games than good.

Re Chopra - £4.5M is a little too much.

ChambersM did you see the Euro Under 17 Final in which Connor scored winner,Russell Osman perhaps you were too young to remember him,was summarizing on Euro Sport and he said that CW wouldnt have let us down at World Cup especially with Emile Heskey there who Russell thinks even now is inferior to the Ipswich striker.Wickham stood out head and shoulders(literally and metaphorically)above rest of team.
Agree with Monkey Blue however that our scouting system needs looking at,or could it be RK's judgement,as he is saying exactly the same as last year looking to bring in all these players.ME appears to want him to shift some of the existing dead wood not surprisingly but we wont get much for them, even if we can find clubs willing to take/buy.
Once again Keane seems set on paying over the odds for a player again he had at Sunderland, for good ness sake Roy broaden your horizons and pick up some bargains as Bobby Robson used to;but then he had a lot of contacts in the game where as you appear to be a 'loner'

u17 euro championships, playing against 15-17 year olds - World cup playing against messi and ronaldo?

Because of course there is no comparison between the two?!

I said this when i read the story and i will say it again..that man does not have a clue what he is talking about.....yes heskey is rubbish, but if he had watched wickham at all this season he would see, yes he scored a couple of good goals, but not to suggest he would be capable of playing in the world cup at this stage of his career is ridiculous

Oh yeah course silly me Chambersm! Wickham is SOOOOOO overated!! Thats why Spurs, Sunderland, Aston Villa, Man. U have all been linked with him!! The managers of these clubs don't manage in the Premier League for no reason! I just can't understand why people get so excited over Wickham!!! He's only the best youngster to come out of our acadamy since Bent!!

It beggars belief that anyone would want to keep Stead, when we have the chance of signing Chopra, I guess your one of those living in the past that thinks Pablo is still worth keeping!

They were'nt good enough last season or the season before, we should get shot & lets get someone is gonna change our fortunes, rather than this medicrity certain people seem happy to accept!!!

ChambersM added 00:18 - Jun 9
im only trying to say that your comment about him being better placed to play in the world cup than heskey is stupid. I do think he is overated by town fans because hes only 17, its only the prospect of him being good when he progresses and when he is 20+.

Maybe pablo has done all he can do for us in terms of goals but you cant deny he always changes the game when he comes on. And i suppose you are one of the people who want garvan gone?

For me, IF (big if) chopra came in.....chopra wickham priskin stead = not bad from where im standing?

Tell me what Heskey has actually done in an England shirt? he's tall, thats it! thats about all he's got going for him! he's slow, needs 20 shots before getting 1 on target, he constantly falls on his backside looking for a dubious penalty, the only reason he's been selected is because Bent failed to take his opportunity.

My point about taking Wickham, is not based on a "stupid" thought, he has scored 3 goals in the semi's & final of the U17 Championship, & yes, I accept that playing in the World Cup is a completely different environment, but surely a place in the squad as a potential goalscorer who knows where the back of the net is (unlike Heskey) is worth a shout.

And yes, I am one of those people who think Garvan should be moved on, he can be awesome at times, but this is just too inconsistent, he is no longer a youngster & has had ample opportunity to step upto the plate, likewise Pablo can "turn it on" but anyone who watches Town regularly knows that he can be lazy, he doesn't score enough goals & thats what we lack!! It's ok being able to "hold the ball up" but the stats show we had more shots on goal than any other team in the Championship, we just don't have enough quality to put the damn ball in the back of the net!! I accept that Keane may not have managed either particulary well, but like I said in my previous post, it's time to get shot of those underachievers, & start signing "hard working" players who want to give their all EVERY game. -Chopra, Wickham, Priskin, +another new striker

ChambersM added 11:06 - Jun 9
Garvan hasn't been given a chance, thats all im going to say about him.

And you want chopra AND another striker better than stead, good luck sir
