Tottenham Set to Make New Wickham Bid?
Tottenham Set to Make New Wickham Bid?
Tuesday, 8th Jun 2010 22:36

Tottenham are reportedly set to make Town a new bid of £8 million for striker Connor Wickham. Spurs previously offered the Blues £5 million for the 17-year-old, who as part of the proposed deal would have returned to Portman Road on loan next season.

That bid is now believed to have been turned down, but Harry Redknapp is said to be ready to offer £8 million to test the Blues’ stated intention to keep hold of one of English football’s hottest properties, with Town claimed to have put a £10 million price-tag on the England U17 international.

Last week, chief executive Simon Clegg insisted that Wickham is “an integral part of the squad for next season and going forward”, while the player, who signed a two-year contract in April, said he had “no intention of moving elsewhere”.

How often do Champ clubs get offered £8m for a player? Let alone one that is 17 and has done naff all as yet of importance. Its insane levels of pricing. Even Walcott wasn't priced that high.
I think we'd be silly NOT to sell him. Never look a gift horse (Redknapp with a chequebook) in the mouth.

Look what Spurs did with Naughton from Sheff Utd, after he was hot property, and is now way down the pecking order at Jew Boy Lane.

My first comment on this site, all i can say is DO NOT SELL CONNER, he is worth 12-15 millions at the moment imo. Clegg and Evans are surely not in this business to be selling the crown jewels off cheap!!!

This really is a difficult one. Firstly and most importantly, the Roy haters have to understand that he will have very little say in this. Essentially Clegg and ME will decide whether they wish to sell and although my heart says keep him - my head says that a Championship club HAS to consider such a large some of money for a unproven 17 year old. Wickham COULD be the next Rooney - but he could be the next Bowditch / Clarke. This is all about risk and £8M seems too good an offer.

Anyone who thinks £8M for an unproven 17 year is NOT stupid money - then they are deluded.

Surely we all want to see entertaining football at PR next season. I think if we can hang on to Connor we have a far better chance of that happening. I didnt
miss a home game last season and IMO the 'best' games ( and there were few ) were when Connor was in the side.
Would hate to see him sold yet.

His price won't go up much more unless he scores goals in the PL so we need promotion tbh. 8 million and he doesn't get much better and spurs get ripped off or we keep him for 3/4 years and he turns out to be a top striker in England and we sell him for 20+ mill, it's a gamble
