Tottenham Set to Make New Wickham Bid?
Tottenham Set to Make New Wickham Bid?
Tuesday, 8th Jun 2010 22:36

Tottenham are reportedly set to make Town a new bid of £8 million for striker Connor Wickham. Spurs previously offered the Blues £5 million for the 17-year-old, who as part of the proposed deal would have returned to Portman Road on loan next season.

That bid is now believed to have been turned down, but Harry Redknapp is said to be ready to offer £8 million to test the Blues’ stated intention to keep hold of one of English football’s hottest properties, with Town claimed to have put a £10 million price-tag on the England U17 international.

Last week, chief executive Simon Clegg insisted that Wickham is “an integral part of the squad for next season and going forward”, while the player, who signed a two-year contract in April, said he had “no intention of moving elsewhere”.

The mirrors reporter on most of ITFC stories is Mel Henderson, so although you might poo poo it, he has over 35 years experience of town. I wish it was some jumped up little graduate coming up with rumours but its not...

8 mill ? no way , maybe 12 , but then i would have to think about a 9 mill plus Wickham back next season and Giovani loan season loan next season.

CW will want to play football. Not sit on the sidelines. It makes no differenve to him what the fee is. But he won't want to be a bit part player in the premiership. His parent's seem pretty clued up and would surely recommend against this as they have apppeared to have done already as well as CW himself. If CW is a success next season, promotion or not, he will be worth so much more. Spurs have signed young player's before and it hasn't worked out. BUT, and here is the biggy!! BRIAN KLUGG is now at Spurs. That may be the carrott for CW having come through our rank's with Klugg.......Watch this space!!!!

a lot of fans on here make me laugh, how is an UNPROVEN 17 year old worth more than 8 million. this IF true would be a fantastic offer especially if we got him next season aswell. at the moment look at the rest of the team it all needs strengthening, wickham cant send us up on his own but his money can, i would bite spurs hands off for that money.

£8m?...that's a lot of money that Roy could be given to waste there..........

Money Talks!

£8m & loan back for a season is a good deal. (Roy's comments about loanees hmm)

The heart says I'd like to see him develop his career as an Ipswich player - the head says that we are owned by one man who has ploughed in millions and has the opportunity for a lump sum rebate.....

As with any footballer put yourself in their postion - opportunity to double / triple / quadruple wages for the same job, maybe even less demanding if not playing first team football... come on. Put your hands on your bank statements and tell me you would not do it!!! I can't believe there's a single one of us out there who is so well off and so content they'd turn down the opportunity to earn more with less pressure.

ME / Clegg & Keane - You'll have far more respect by keeping him as an ITFC player rather than loanee.

8 mill isn't that much really. Remember Jim wasted far more than this on NOTHING.

Also, how much did Walcott go for?? 12M?? Connors gotta be worth more than him surely?

He will not leave!

He has said himself that he is not going anywhere and also his Dad has said exactly the same thing and if people think that we will be selling him to raise funds for Chopra, i personally think we can afford the fee its just the wages which will be a problem. But with Stead, Priskin, Martin, Bruce, Lisbe, Quinn, Healy and Conuago all expected to leave and both of the Wrights wages off the books I would have thought we would be able to afford his wages after all them have gone, and why is Keane going to want to let Wickham go when he is getting rid of half his strikers anyway!!

COYB!

Two things - dont sell him - he is such a hot ticket at the moment be stupid to sell
we dont need to - If we can get Chopra ? be worth a punt also on say Austin or another Div one striker those three plus Priskin may be ok

And secondly I am more concerned about getting in a number two for keane - that is the key for next season -

Also SG is away till next week so doubt anything will happen

If Yiddos offer Gio + £10m then he can go.

Remember the young lad is unproven at any level. What if he's a massive flop this year ?

I would not like to be in Keane's shoes right now, that's a great offer, especially if he's loaned to us again for a season. Personally, no thanks, we have money and Cooner and Chops will be one hell of a partnership.

3 months ago CW signed for us when he could of walked away for next to nothing. We were told that he felt PR was the best place to be at this stage of his career. Surely the best way to thank him for that decision is to keep him at the club and support his development. If he helps us to promotion this season the payments from the Premier League will be 3 to 4 times any transfer fee we will be offered. If not we have a multi-million pound talent still on our books.

Evans is a savvy businessman and knows he's not going to get his money back by selling players. It's about getting promoted. That's where the money is.

By selling conner is admitting our lack of ambishion. Conner is the future of our cluband I don't mean funding it. The only way he should be let go us if it's really what he wants. Wouldn't it be great to have someone with the loyalty and skill of a player like matt le tis at our club. Conner that could be u. Like people have said conner and chopra looks a tasty pairing.

what would hapen if he went to spurs ?? he would probably fester in the reserves like Gio did, and we know what a good player Gio is, so do not let it happen.
BY the way what is all the rumours about Mowbray sitting waiting in the wings if Keano makes mistakes ????? Just read in the evening star. suppose to have had a meeting with Marcus Evans last weekend ??????????? !!!!!!!!!!

2 goals in the semi and the winner in the final. Injury time goals for us on at least two occassions. That is what Keano means by character. Money doesn't talk unless you let it. Sometimes one player can be the difference between success and failure. Promotion guarantees 60 million, 8 million doesn't sound so much then.
P.S. I think we got at least 8 million for Titus Bramble so i'm not dazzled by those kind of figures, Richard Wright went for 6 million i think. How much did Kieron Dyer go for?
