Derry Joins QPR
Derry Joins QPR
Tuesday, 22nd Jun 2010 16:44

Town have missed out on signing Crystal Palace skipper Shaun Derry with the midfielder agreeing a two-year deal at QPR. Earlier in the week, the Blues were reported to be making a renewed move for the out-of-contract 32-year-old, who was also offered new terms by Palace.

QPR boss Neil Warnock, who managed Derry during his spell at Selhurst Park, said: "I felt we needed another type of midfielder to what we already have.

"If we are going to be successful this season we need to cover every avenue. I know Shaun well. He is a very good professional who will benefit the team."

Derry added: "I'm delighted to reach agreement with the club. There's a very talented group of players already here.

"When QPR came to Palace at the end of last season, in my own opinion, they were the best side we played at Selhurst Park. That was the kind of performance Neil will want from us next season.

"The aim has to be to compete at the top - the top two ideally. We've definitely got the ability and the quality to get into the Premier League."

Will this be the first of many that choose another club over ITFC...... I guess we'll just have to wait & see. I would be more disappointed if we had lost out on any targeted strikers than a midfielder, but signings breed more signings & if players choose to sign for rival clubs players & agents will notice.

We need to start completing on signings before we get left with the dredgings of free transfers & panic buys, take note ME, SC, & RK!!

Can't say I am to gutted. Had we not got a plethora of defensive midfielders then I may be more concerned. However we need pace and flair in the midfield!

Very interesting. Yesterday people slated Roy for being interested in Derry ... Today, when he joins QPR, people start slating Roy because he joined another club. Some people really are pathetic.

Do you even know if we were actually after him. This was just a rumour after all. Plus, he has worked with Warnock and it was always reported that he would go there.

I suggest that if some of you hate Roy so much, you do yourselves a favour and support another club.

Spot on jas0999, the same old morons spouting the same old drivel. Roy is damned if does and damned if doesn't. He was wrong for wanting a "has been" (despite Burley and Warnock fighting over the same player), now he's wrong for not being able to sign him. Get some flaming perspective you iiiiiiiiiiiidiots.

Okay, maybe our "messiah" can resort to Plan D, E or F. Maybe Blackpool are releasing a few players on free transfers that we may be able to attract??

i have always rated derry and thought he would give us some much needed muscle in the centre. He also talks a lot during the game whilst our players are far too quiet. He will be a good signing for qpr

Not too bothered we didn't get him as i feel other areas of the team are in more need of strengthening. Hopefully with pre-season starts next week a bit of movement in transfer market will be imminent as signing players does tend to boost the club and fans

The biggest concern here is that the player has rejected ITFC over QPR. However, I guess he does not need to move house to go to QPR, and he is reunited with old manager who is a known quantity to him too, so maybe not too much to worry about, just an unrealistic target once we knew Warnock was in for him.

Oh well. I have to admit, I wasn't overly excited by this one, but I thought Derry could have done a job, giving us an outright defensive midfield option. Not overly fussed that he has gone elsewhere though.

The thing that concerns me is that Derry was presumably one of RK's "4 or 5 identified targets." Daryl Murphy was presumably another and both have apparently turned us down. As no other signings appear iminent, it is feasible that the others have as well. I'm not going to speculate why, as there could be any number of reasons, but I worry what plan B might be, and whether we might be missing out on good targets by focusing on ones that are unlikely to go through?

Quite Mungo, there was not a plan B last summer was there... just desperate signings once Whitehead had turned us down......

jaso999,oh yes i go and support another club, because i have a different opinion to you.I say it again,im not anti keane,or pro,the jury is out.And i will stickto what i said,we seem to only attract average, players nobody else wants, and derry was a perfect example,so itsworrying we cant even attract rubbish.

Did anyone at ITFC state they had put an offer or were interested in Derry? The article states "as reported in the press". So someone went somewhere else than with us. There maybe many reasons. How about he wants to stay in London and work with his ex boss? Oh No, wait a minute its because he hates Roy Keane. Some maybe a little too trigger happy on here
