Derry Joins QPR
Derry Joins QPR

Town have missed out on signing Crystal Palace skipper Shaun Derry with the midfielder agreeing a two-year deal at QPR. Earlier in the week, the Blues were reported to be making a renewed move for the out-of-contract 32-year-old, who was also offered new terms by Palace.

QPR boss Neil Warnock, who managed Derry during his spell at Selhurst Park, said: "I felt we needed another type of midfielder to what we already have.

"If we are going to be successful this season we need to cover every avenue. I know Shaun well. He is a very good professional who will benefit the team."

Derry added: "I'm delighted to reach agreement with the club. There's a very talented group of players already here.

"When QPR came to Palace at the end of last season, in my own opinion, they were the best side we played at Selhurst Park. That was the kind of performance Neil will want from us next season.

"The aim has to be to compete at the top - the top two ideally. We've definitely got the ability and the quality to get into the Premier League."

TBH, I'm not bothered about missing out on Derry, everytime I've seen Derry play all he seems to do is kick people and then snarl at the ref if things don't go his way. As people have said, can't blame RK if Derry did reject us, but it is only tabloid talk, so who know's if he did.

I'm getting a little shakey though on the fact that Keane wanted all his signings in before 28 June and on 23 we're still wating for the 1st. . . Well I'll get back to checking TWTD every day to see if we've been linked to another player or signed anyone.

QPR no longer in the market for Ambrose. Get in there, Keano, before we miss out again.

Derry going to QPR over us is no surprise really. Just concerned whether they are waiting to sell before we buy. Surely Chopra has made his mind up if he wants to come or not.

Norwich's 5th signing is a 23-year-old with Premier League experience who Wolves signed from Southampton for £1.2M, so he sounds decent. We could argue that Ipswich will wait longer and sign better players, but it has to be a concern that our rivals are buying players when we are not. Keane said he wanted 5 players and ideally to get men in before pre-season training, so the fact we have signed no one has to be disappointing. What has happened to our scouting network? Where are the "contacts" that Keane was supposed to have when we appointed him? Where is any evidence of the draw that Keane is supposed to be to persude players to come here?

Everyone (ok lot's of you) slagged off Magilton..at least he managed to bring Gio Dos Santos here...Keane can't even attract Shaun Derry...says it all.

It'll be last minute panic stations again come august.

Derry set for London. LondonDerry.... Do you get it, multi-layered. The sort of thing Stephen Fry would think of, only he supports Norwich.

By the way, let DevonTractorboy off for the 'guys' thing. It's great to be one of the guys.

i love how the keane outers assume he hasnt joined because of the manager - when no one associated with ipswich have confirmed interest. And they say we would back keane thru anything...seems they jump on his back over ANYTHING AT ALL.

Hands up who ACTUALLY knows that Roy Keane wanted Derry? I don't - and I'm fairly certain 99% of others on here don't either. It will be very quiet until world cup is done and dusted - then we can discuss whether we can attract decent players etc...

Lightning boy, Dos Santos came only because of John Gorman's contacts at Spurs, not Magilton.

Tractorboy24 then perhaps Keane should get a number 2 that can attract players like Magilton did and help with coaching as he seems to struggle with both

As I have posted before there is no scouting network since RK arrived.

But what makes me laugh is the concerned (antiRK?) talk of Norwich's five signings so far, and the not concerned (proRK?) talk of the transfers that will happen after the WC has finished.

Can you not see that Norwich are signing rubbish, because we are going to sign quality, players who are in the WC. Thats why they have five and we have none.

I mean if the transfer season will not kick off until after the WC has finished why on earth have Norwich already bought 5 players. They have no idea.

Even stupid Man U have signed a striker playing in the world cup, why, you are supposed to wait until after the world cup.

Doh!
