Disabled Parking
at 16:08 18 Feb 2024

After a bit of advice please.

My mum has tickets in the SBR suite for Tuesday, she suffers from MND and struggles to walk distances. She’s got a blue badge and is planning on parking in Portman Road car park, but the entrance is now through where Staples used to be and I’m concerned that she won’t be able to walk that far to get round.

Does anyone know if there is disabled parking closer than the Portman Road car park or if they would open the gate on Portman Road to allow access that way? Another option is whether the club have disabled parking too, but assume they don’t due to the high demand.

Before I get the Gatwick answers, she has to be there at 17.00, so will be too early for the shuttle busses from there.

Saudi investment in sport/sportswashing
at 10:41 2 Jul 2023

Where does it stop and was there not a lesson to learn from the whole Russia debacle?

Golf as a sport has sold its soul to them. If you’re LGBTQ+ professional golfer (or just are against the Saudi regime), where do you ply your trade?
Can see their investment in Newcastle being longish term (a la Man City) but can’t see the Saudi Pro League being anything more than a Chinese Super League spin off. What is the goal in bringing these big names somewhere that people won’t visit?
They host major events like Formula One & Boxing and there are rumours of main tour tennis tournaments heading there. None of these seem to draw tourism though, with small attendances & seemingly local attendees. Again, are they trying to angle for tourism market, but at the same time not compromising their beliefs (like Qatar & the alcohol selling).

All of the above (apart from the Golf investment) was done by Russia & Putin prior to them becoming a pariah state for their invasion into Ukraine. It just seems set for another issue were Saudi to invade say, Yemen where they already have a heavy military footprint, or Israel which would perhaps make more people sit up & take note.

Numbskulls vs Bedsheet Brigade

Am I the only person drawing a comparison with this season to the end of Magilton & Keane’s first season in charge of us?

I do feel that the damage being done isn’t quite as deep rooted as what Keane inflicted, but I can’t help but compare the 2 with results, playing style and treatment of past star goalkeepers.

Then you have the fact that the previous managers were hounded out when clearly there was no need. Both Magilton & McCarthy’s times were up, but a section of our fans (plus a part of the media) decided to compound it and turn it nasty.

5-a-siders
at 00:09 16 Jul 2017

I need a team. I would go to my local friend group, however I've lived away from Ipswich for a while and the guys I used to play with up at Henley Cricket Stadium have now dissipated to pastures new (apart from one or 2 who I play Sunday league with).

I am an idiot and a 5-a-side goalkeeper, so know that my commodity is high, because no one wants to play in goal because there is little fun to those who are not a sadist like myself.

Therefore this is a proposal (preferably to those at goals on a Tuesday/Wednesday night) I need a team to play for. If you have a team and need a keeper, please let me know, because I need to get back into it and as you can probably guess, I am desperate.

Squad for next year
at 12:33 3 Apr 2017

Going into next year, thought I'd look at our squad and who we would have left.

Contracted beyond the summer:

Bialkowski
Emmanuel
Kenlock
Knudsen
Smith
Webster
Bishop
Skuse
Bru
Ward
Hyam
Dozzell
Rowe
McGoldrick
Pitman
Sears
Moore

Players out of contract:

Gerken- decent back up, so may as well keep
Taylor - think he again offers good back up and brings leadership to the squad.
Chamber - think he's got to be kept to play centre half and continue as captain.
Berra - let go, good servant to the club, but just not good enough anymore.
Spence - keep as back up to right back/right centre half if we play as a 3.
Digby - let go, can't see him breaking into the side.
Douglas - all I'll say is let go.
Best - going.
Coke - going.

Current loanees:

Williams
Lawrence
Diagouraga
Huws
Samuel

I'd keep all of these if we could (obviously some would be easier than others).

Even if all of those not contracted to us next year left, I don't think we'd have a bad base of a squad to build on, the problem is that any build takes money which will obviously not be available under Evans.
