Town Off to Histon Not Southend
Town Off to Histon Not Southend
Tuesday, 6th Jul 2010 12:40

Town’s pre-season friendly at Southend on Friday has been cancelled and replaced with a game against Blue Square Premier side Histon at their Glassworld Stadium (KO 7.45pm).

Shrimpers boss Paul Sturrock, who was appointed yesterday, felt that he didn’t have sufficient players to fulfil the fixture with only nine senior professionals currently at Roots Hall.

Town club secretary Sally Webb told the official site: "Paul spoke to Roy [Keane] and told him that unfortunately he wasn't in a position to put out a competitive team.

"We've been in contact with Histon and they have kindly agreed to play us on Friday at short notice, which helps everyone out."

The Histon squad includes former Blue Antonio Murray, who recently returned to the Cambridgeshire club, and ex-academy players Erkan Okay and Callum Stewart.

The Stutes are managed by former Cambridge United boss John Beck. Entry costs £5 for adults and £1 for under-16s

It's in village of Impington. Come off J32 , A14, go towards Impington, cross bridge and ground is on right. See Histon FC website for parking near to ground. It's a nice club with nice people running it.

Amazing that Histon can put out a side but Southend cannot??

Not really Elvis, Southend have a transfer embargo and are unable to replace players that have left. Histon do not have this issue. Pretty simple really, much like yourself.

For those going, it might be an idea to take a neck brace because the ball clearly wont be on the ground for long.

Perhaps Histon have players that Keane knows or ex Sunderland that he can temp !

Histon could be Keano's next stop on the management merry go round. It's about his level !!!!

Wallingford_boy - no offence was taken, that comment was funny. However, fancying me is not an option as I sound like I am on a different bus from you. Sorry mate !!

Wasn't it Histon that beat Leeds in the Cup a year or two ago?
