Town and Leeds to Move for Chopra
Town and Leeds to Move for Chopra
Friday, 30th Jul 2010 08:20

Town are set to make a renewed move to sign Cardiff City striker Michael Chopra, according to reports in Wales this morning. However, the Blues are said to face competition from Leeds United, who are expected complete the signing of Town defender Alex Bruce this morning.

Michael Chopra has long been understood to be Roy Keane’s number one summer target with the two close after their spell together at Sunderland and it is believed the Bluebirds turned down a Town offer of £3.75 million earlier in the summer.

However, with Chopra unhappy with the continuing financial crisis at Cardiff, the Blues are again reported to be keen to push through a deal by making a new offer. It’s understood that the initial bid was tabled towards the end of last season and that negotiations have continued throughout the summer.

Cardiff's current situation may force them to have to sell their prize asset to raise cash with fees owed to other clubs for various players, wages paid late last month and ongoing issues over unpaid PAYE.

Leeds United are also claimed to be interested in the 26-year-old, who Cardiff paid Sunderland £3 million for a year ago, but Portman Road continues to appear the former England U21 international’s most likely destination if he leaves the Bluebirds with the Whites perhaps not in a position to spend the amount of cash likely to be involved in the overall deal.

Meanwhile, Alex Bruce is expected to put pen to paper on a two-year deal at Elland Road this morning, a fee of £200,000 plus a further £100,000 on appearances having been agreed earlier in the week.

And so the Chopra saga rumbles on.

I really think that this should be the last atempt. It reminds me of the Franny Jeffers stuff a few years back.

We need Chopra! Surely Leeds are not in a position to pay a high stransfer fee and his wages?

BBC website on Town,Keane is reported as saying 3 out and 3 in,if Garvan goes we will need a midfielder.
IMO one will be Fulop plus a midfielder plus a striker, because of the lost of Stead and Lisbie plus Wickham injury. Is Chopra is the striker only time will tell. Can see Leeds finding 4.5 million for Chopra as their finance is not brilliant

can you imagine if we got chops and priskin became the player we know he is capable of. we could have wickham spearheading a 3 man attack.

We better get him!

I think his relationship with Keane will put us above most other sides when trying to sign him.

Someone from the club told me at the end of last season that Chopra was coming for 5 mill if they did not go up and Phil Beadsey was coming on a free from Sunderland.

c'mon guys lets just get chopra in and maybe fulop. as someone has already said Wickham spearheading a three man attack with Chopra and an in form/confident Priskin would have most teams worried, would be intresting to see if those three could work together!!! C.O.Y.B

Leeds fan here. Rest assured we will not be making a bid for Chopra. We simply don't have anything like the cash to buy him. If you had a £3m+ bid rejected then that is probably twice what we could afford and that would be putting all our eggs in one basket.

Our Chairman wants to be back in the Prem in the next 3 years and I don't think anyone at Leeds is realisticaly expecting to challenge this season.

Good luck next season - will be routing for you a little this season and hope you can do one over those budgies from down the road.

p.s spare us some sympathy - Bruce and Naylor at the back - OH DEAR!
p.p.s thanks for sending us down 3 years ago! lol
