Bruce: Fülöp on Cusp of Joining Town
Bruce: Fülöp on Cusp of Joining Town
Sunday, 1st Aug 2010 10:12

Sunderland boss Steve Bruce says he expects Márton Fülöp’s move to Town to go through. The Hungarian international keeper has been talking personal terms with the Blues for more than a week.

Bruce says he is happy for the switch to be completed despite having a number of goalkeepers out injured at present: “Márton Fülöp is on the cusp of joining Ipswich — talks are going on chairman-to-chairman. It looks like it will go through and I’m not going to stop that one.”

Fülöp looks likely to have to take a pay-cut to join Town and the clubs may have to settle the remaining year of the 27-year-old’s Black Cats contract, with a fee of £750,000 understood to have been agreed.

I think this is good news. Given our struggles to find the net a good experienced GK is important, yes Brian Murphy isn't bad but I would be alot more confidant with Fulop in goal.

Some of you poster are unfookingbelivable. We need another another goalkeeper with the lost of Wright. For whatever reason RK got rid of Wright he's gone so no use moaning over spilled milk. Murphy whether Fulop comes or not is currently number one as there is no one else at the club capable of challenging him for that spot. ALB did alright in goal when we needed him, and deserved his contract but he is not the quality to challenge for the number 1 spot. Fulop is. It will push Murphy and Fulop to challenge each other for it, keeping both on their toes and forcing them to improve. If you can't see that then you're an idiot. The great managers, Bobby Robson, Brian Clough, Ferguson all knew/know the most important position on the field is the goal-keeper. How many times last year did we draw or lose a game because the opposition goal keeper played out of their skins?
Yes we need to improve in certain areas and I am sure RK and ME knows this and are looking if not actually talking deals at this precise moment. But to say we don't need Fulup and he is a waste of money is naive at best and just stupid at worst.

Murphy was at fault for the goal the other day, but that is no reason to sign a replacement - every keeper makes mistakes from time to time. However, the squad will be strengthened by a Fullop joining.
I am rapidly becoming a critic of Keane'e man mangement - but signing Fullop is no reason to have a rant. We have an obvious need for a new striker, that doesn't mean you don't sign a goalie as well, if a good one becomes available.
Keane is not responsible for the speed of negotiations about Chopra - that is down to Clegg.
