Walters Move Linked to McGeady's Switch
Walters Move Linked to McGeady's Switch
Thursday, 5th Aug 2010 09:15

Skipper Jon Walters’s move to Stoke could depend on Celtic winger Aiden McGeady completing his switch to Spartak Moscow. Walters is understood to be seen as a replacement for Potters wideman Liam Lawrence, who has been lined up to take McGeady's place at Celtic.

McGeady is currently in Moscow discussing his move with the Russian side reportedly expecting the £9.5 million move to go through.

Walters is understood to have travelled to Stoke yesterday for talks after a reported fee of £3 million had been agreed between the clubs, neither of whom has commented on the proposed deal.

Meanwhile, Town’s signing of Márton Fülöp is still to be completed with no new reports of interest from any other clubs in this morning’s papers. Some sections of the Spanish media continue to link Hercules with the Hungarian keeper, but the 27-year-old was previously understood to have turned down the chance to join the newly-promoted La Liga side.

Swansea have confirmed that they have approached Chelsea regarding a £1 million move for Scott Sinclair, a player also linked with the Blues.

Elsewhere, Town have sent a side to the Umbro Galway Cup youth tournament. A young Blues team is competing in the U15 Elite Boys section that they won in 2007.

The Town youngsters lost their first game 3-1 to an FAI Emerging Talent side and beat Welsh club Bangor City 2-0 in their second. They face Norwegian side Stabaek in their final group match today with play-off games on Friday and Saturday.

I doubt Walters will go tbh, too many variables. And good luck to the U15s. Used to play with a lad who is playing for them, he was playing in the year above and still looked quality.

This is the worst summer i have known for transfers. I think the blame lies with Clegg. For gods sake just sign someone!!! I thought this club had ambition??
Complete joke!
At least with Sheepy in charge we kept in touch of whats going on more or less on a daily basis.
Us fans are treated like mushrooms!

BORING!!!!

Fed up of checking this everyday and reading the same rubbish! Why do transfers seem to take 3 months these days!? They never used to! £5 a week, a bus pass, a free meal and a pint after the game....job done!

Its piss poor ITFC !!!
Ok so the club might not have a great deal of money to throw around but has keane ever thought of the lower leagues instead of poxy Sunderland or ex Sunderland all the time?
look at the likes of Matty Holland and David Johnson, both came from the lower leagues and turned out pure quality!!
Keane has Clegg have been rumbled, they cant seem to attract anyone at all.

@Keanish -
Don't lose hope just yet. As the Prem squads get trimmed I expect to see a sudden surge in loans activity. With luck, we might land a Gio-esque loaner or two to bring the entertainment. Fullop looks a good signing but supporters don't pay to watch goalkeepers, do they?

Otherwise, I am similarly frustrated by the grinding pace of inward-moving transfers.

How about if Stoke brought him for 3m and if Liam Lawrence doesn't go we get Walters back on loan?

And good luck to the U 15's.

I keep checking this site hoping to see that we have made some signings.

I feel kinda flat at the moment, I had a real buzz at the start if the week-new season right round the corner, Keane talking about 3 signings in by the end of the week.

Instead no signings, more out goings then in. Buzz has all but gone!

Really need something to lift my spirits, whether it be us beating Middlesbrough on Saturday, Fulop/Chopra signing. Come on ITFC give me something.

Agree, this is just boring, I can't remember a season when I have felt so NON-excited about the season starting, we have been promised everything & got nothing, Someone else posted earlier, about the club having ambition, they say they want success, but talk is cheap....... New signings are NOT!, "ambition talk" needs to be shown/matched with some signings, expensive tickets, with a lack of quality, it isn't gonna take long for some fans to stop going, football is supposed to be entertainment, we haven't scored a goal in the last 4 friendlies, but still we chase a goalkeeper, What the hell is going on at my beloved club.....

Are the fans who were calling Walters for leaving for Stoke on the other post, Now going to cheer our Captain on Saturday? Again two years now that Walters will be going to Stoke (TWTD who ever your source I would sack them)
Sunderland are looking at Hart from Man City as a season long loan (BBC), is that the reason for the hold up?
Just heard that Wickham is going to Blackburn for 7 Million but I wont tell you the source

I can see that we will be lucky to see Fulop sign in time for our first home game let alone this week. Carl Marston must be embarassed to say he was signing last tues. the Walters saga will go on and on, there will be several reserves against the Boro I am sure !!!!!!!

@suffolk_n_good

You must have read my mind, but then again i think every town fan must be thinking why a new goalkeeper when we haven't scored hardly much at all last season and the recent friendlies. Fulop is a good signing don't get me wrong but I think murphy is capable for this division and lee barrett is a capable goalie should Murphy ends up injured.

I remember the good times of kuqi and Bent up front When i went to every game knowing if the other team scored 4 we would proberly end up scoring 6, long has that ship sailed.Town seriously need to look at league 1 and 2 teams and Find a good striker thats doing well and give them a chance.
We can tempt them to the club by the foundations we have stadium, fan base and training facilities also our history.

Come on keano get some players that want to wear the shirt rather than the players that want just the money as people that watched the games last year could tell most but not all the players seemed like they just played for the pay cheque.

Just complete and under nonsense from ITFC this summer..

I think they should close the transfer window on july the 31st..gives everyone a good 3 months to sort out their squads which is more than enough time then everyone can start the season on an equal-ish footing knowing what they've got...it's ridiculous that we're going into saturday's match with 1 new first team signing (2 if Fulop actually signs),then we're expecting a few more out/hopefully a few more in when the season's underway..basically the first 3 weeks of the season is more like pre-season than the actual pre-season.

What have we been doing since april the 26th????!

Why would Stoke pay 3 Million for Walters, he has had an average seson last year and not proven at top flight yet.
Wittingham of Cardiff 20 goals, 10 assits and hit the woodwork 9 times, got a feeling 3 Million would temp Cardiff seeing as they need some Money.

Dont get me wrong I like Walters and I am hoping he can reproduce the from he showed 2 years ago

It's like house purchase - a long chain of buying and selling. It only needs one deal to fall down and the whole chain collapses.
