Martinez Confirms Town Interest in Scotland
Martinez Confirms Town Interest in Scotland
Monday, 9th Aug 2010 10:07

Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez has confirmed Town’s interest in Trinidad and Tobago international striker Jason Scotland, as first revealed on TWTD at the end of last week. However, the Spaniard says the Blues face opposition from other Championship clubs for the 31-year-old frontman.

Martinez says he will talk to the various interested sides: “It’s not the first time that a few clubs have been in for one of our players. We’ll see what happens.

“It’s fair to say there is strong interest there from Ipswich Town, and a few other clubs have also asked us about Jason. It’s just a case now of sitting down with all the parties and working out what is the best move for Wigan Athletic.”

On Saturday, Town boss Roy Keane said he was looking to sign two players before Wednesday.

Get him in before the others get a look in Scotland and Wickham (wipes away droll) would be to strong for any team in this league.

Just shows Sky Sports Sources are not always correct "Town Play in the next 48 Hours"!!

To be honest it does feel as if these signings are being drawn out. How many articles were written about Fullops impending signing over the past few weeks, all repeating the same message?
Iv fallen in to the trap of checking twtd every 10 minutes for updates. In fairness to twtd, they do update regularly, Its only ourselves that are making the time drag. Im just going to log on once in the morning and once in the afternoon from now on!

robdaful - "will complete the move to Portman Road in the next 48 hours" I did make the mistake of saying play instead of player!! Thought you might of guessed.

Sorry fourpee I do apologise. I thought you mean't that we were looking to bring him in within 48 hours before the exeter match.

Next time I'll have to think more. It would be great to have him.

Obviously Martinez/Wigan have decided to see if they can drum up abit more money. "Talking to other interested parties & then deciding what is best for Wigan" seems to me that this will take more than a few days, unless none of the other clubs match our offer.

I think that Saturdays result will give us an advantage in signing these players. Keane clearly likes this 4-1-4-1/4-3-3 formation that dominated Boro, so he will be looking for players to fit into this. Scotland can play through the middle and I imagine with his pace and work rate that he would be effective on the right side of a three too. McCormack has alot of experience on the wing as well as up front so would be a perfect aquisition imo. Both players were prolific a year ago (20+ each) and I would like to think that even after poor returns last season (largely due to being played out of position or not being played at all) that they can rediscover this at PR. After all, they will have Norris, Leadbitter and Hyam behind them dominating teams. If they work hard then we are guaranteed a prolific 3. McCormack, Wickham and Scotland *drools*

i guess it'd be interesting to know when martinez said this... maybe it was last week before the fee was agreed? Maybe the board have agreed and not told him (he he).... but what i want to know is if it really is that far away and nothing agreed who is the striker keene said was very very very ubelieveably close on friday???!!!!

would be very very happy to have scotland at the club... so what if he hasn't done it in the premier league? the championship is what's important and he's proved he's one of the best there.

Martinez is just trying to talk up the price, hang in there blues and don't pay over the odds for a 31 yr old!

FrowsyArmLarry added 12:10 - Aug 9
If there are other interested clubs why only name Ipswich..... Obviously trying to push the price up with these phantom other parties. Offer 'em 750k and wait till the window comes to a close

Priskin, McCormack, Scotland, Wickham

as opposed to...

Priskin, Walters, Stead, Wickham

Think I prefer the first line but would ideally like to see us retain Stead. Mind you is that a bit greedy? Just with edwards injured and wickham still out we may need Steady - plus think he's a very good player and would be a shame to see him go.

Also against lesser teams we could do with putting out a 4.3.3 formation or something more attacking, and in that case we may need another good attacker just in case, so please Keane keep Stead if at all possible.
