Martinez Confirms Town Interest in Scotland
Martinez Confirms Town Interest in Scotland
Monday, 9th Aug 2010 10:07

Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez has confirmed Town’s interest in Trinidad and Tobago international striker Jason Scotland, as first revealed on TWTD at the end of last week. However, the Spaniard says the Blues face opposition from other Championship clubs for the 31-year-old frontman.

Martinez says he will talk to the various interested sides: “It’s not the first time that a few clubs have been in for one of our players. We’ll see what happens.

“It’s fair to say there is strong interest there from Ipswich Town, and a few other clubs have also asked us about Jason. It’s just a case now of sitting down with all the parties and working out what is the best move for Wigan Athletic.”

On Saturday, Town boss Roy Keane said he was looking to sign two players before Wednesday.

In a perfect world I'd like to see Stead stay & play. He scores the type of goals that no-one else at the club does - take your pick from any of the ones he has scored against Reading (on his debut, then the return game with the overhead volley), QPR & Blackpool (at home last season).

just cant see what the problem is with Stead. i would have thought with his passion for the game he would be right up Keanes street, he certainly isnt a slacker and even when not given the vote of confidence on so many occaisions he plays for his team with his heart on his sleeve - money cant buy that. no he wont ever by a 20+ plus man but if you have your 20+ and a good 10 - 15 + thats a pretty good ratio and much better than last year :-)

I am truely excited by the team we could possible have by the end of august which in my opinion should be feared in the championship.
Fulop
Edwards Mcauley Smith Kennedy
Hyam
Norris Leadbitter
Scotland McCormack
Wickham

That assuming walters will leave. I fancy edwards as a right back especially with a holding midfielder he will be able to push on and give us width down the right and allow scotland to get in the middle and score goals.

anyone seen the news that Warnock is thinking of giving King a 'chance' because he has done his time?

From Keane "do not expect to see any imminent signings in the next two days".

Tends to suggest that any deals will be the end of the week if anything is going to happen.

Also the team is using the plane, not the bus for the next few trips as to not get fatigue to early on in the season.

Also Keane is after two attackers, a midfielder & a defender and is not ruling out the loan market.

And Pablo will definitely not be involved again against Exeter tomorrow!

Also....

Edwards is out for 3 weeks, Kennedy is not to bad & the Walters situation has gone quiet and he will be involved in the Exter game tomorrow.

SeasonticketSteve thanks for that - can we pick up the full interview anywhere? Glad to see Edwards not too bad and hopefully we can hang on to walters for the next three weeks to cover. any news on those already side lined? think a centre back on loan maybe a good idea as very short on cover is Mcually is struggling or a utlity player who plays right back but could cover centre in emergancy (hmmm david wright would have been good!).

I really like the look of that team ipswich1992!!! Would be awseome, full of goals, pace and energy!!! I must say though, if Peters is being criticised for the defensive side of his game then Edwards would be far worse. Carlos showed what he can do going forward against McBoro and he will be a great option for us, esp. when Walters goes. I've always thought that Peters looks solid at full back, but I'm starting to hear that his positional sense is letting him down. I suppose he's only young though and learning a new position. His pace and dribbling will add alot to our attack this season when he bombs forward.

Unexpectedly Tamas Priskin has picked up an ankle injury, and is now a doubt for the England-Hungary game.

How many times does Keano raise our hopes only for them to be diminished.
We were going to have a player in for tomorrow now it seems unlikely. This is all very frustrating - agree with other posts that Martinez is holding out for a bidding war for Scotland so it could be bye bye to that deal which will be a shame. My Team tomorrow: Murphy,
Peters, Brown, Smith, Ainsley
Lambe, Healy, Whitehead, O'Connor
Stead Walters
Probably be miles out but hope it is not too weak as we could do with a cup run.

StowTractor reading between the lines i think Keane wants supporters to know how close he is at getting players in and at how far the board are at matching that expectation i.e they want something for nothing! Clegg surely even you can understand you pay peanuts and all you will get is Monkeys.... come on board dig deep and lets speculate to accumlate - the players mentioned are all quality and will bring us so much closer to promotion.

Think it's quite funny that Cardiff fans on their forum want us to get Scotland so we'll leave Chopra alone. They say Scotland is poor because he hasn't made an impact in the premiership and that the championship is his level. Yeah cos Chopra was a scoring machine in the premiership wasn't he!

correct me if i am wrong, Jason Scotland Powerful Pacy west indian striker, David Johnston was a powerful pacy west indian striker and we got promoted the year that we signed him, jesus could this be an omen? for the money that is being quoted if we sign Scotland not Chopra and save the difference in money my confidence in this club is really starting to rise and if Scotland joins (which looks very likely now) then in Keane and owners i trust !
