Keane Closing in On Loan Signings
Keane Closing in On Loan Signings
Wednesday, 11th Aug 2010 08:07

Boss Roy Keane says the Blues could make a couple of loan signings by the end of the week. The Town manager says there have been no new developments on Stoke target Jon Walters’s situation.

Keane expects to hear news on his current targets later in the week: “Not tonight, but we’re hopefully pretty close with one or two loan deals maybe to come in on Thursday or Friday, but we’ll hear more on that on Wednesday. I have to say I was very much focusing on the game tonight.”

The Blues boss says there has been no progress on interest in skipper Jon Walters, who missed the Exeter game: “Not that I’m aware of. Jon reported this morning that he wasn’t well and we had to get on and we were obviously one short on the bench because we’d finalised the squad. But Chuck Norris took over and his captaincy was outstanding tonight.”

Stoke are understood to be the frontrunners for Walters’s signature with QPR and other clubs also interested.

i dont think there is anything wrong with walters' desire and heart for this club bluelady, he was v good at the weekend....just because you and bedsitfc both thought the same thing at the same time does not make it true now does it....o'connor was ill recently as well, so it could just be something thats doing the rounds, although i really hope not because we cant afford anymore players to be out!

Please, no more 'about to sign', 'closing in' or 'imminent signings'. Give us players holding a signed contract in one hand and a town shirt in the other.

A brilliant start to the season but it seems like our season is already hanging by a thread due to injuries and players going/ not coming in.

onlyonesirbobby but saturday wouldnt have cup tied him would it? i know where you are coming from and had this have been the only occaision recently i would have agreed but he seems to be picking up virises all the time didnt he miss the team bbq and west ham game due to a 'virus'?

If the club are willing to sell JW in order to bring in funds, it makes sense not to take risks that could scupper a deal. Virus or not, all parties are in a better negotiating position.

Hope RK can bring in some exciting players soon. This transfer hokey-cokey business is getting a bit boring.

I said about Walters being cup tired and I got shot down in flame.
I think the same that he is on his way now, Howeve before we start to slate our captain, the virus thing may be true or a smoke screen as he may have had a family emergancy anad something which he does not want made public.

You cant blame a player when the chance comes along to go from playing Bristol City to Man U and also a good possiblility of doubling your wages. It could be his parents are not well and would like to be closer to them so a move to Stoke may make life easier or his wife and kids cant settle and want to move. Who know's

What would you do if you were in his shoes?

Walters definitely wont be going to Stoke as Liam Lawrance has stated he wants to stay so unless Wigan have come back in for him, I would say that it was a genuine illness last night.

As for the loan signings, I heard its likely to be a midfielder and a defender. This is idle speculation but its possible that Colback may be on his way back to Town.

Anybody know what is happening with Luca Civelli,?? I thought it was just a jarring of the knee nothing serious we were told. Has he gone back to Argentina for rehabilition or what ????. He is going to be way behind on his fitness levels now, as the season has started !!!!!

bluelady added 11:37 - Aug 11
some good points Carlos....... its all speculation isnt it! Brittaniaman i have asked that question and i think no one knows where he is as i suspect if he was anywhere near fitness he would have been on bench at least last night

bluelady you make a fair point about him being ill a lot, and like karlos said, it could be a smokescreen covering up something more personal. however, over the past few days, iv got to say it seems less likely that stoke are pursuing him as much as was previously reported. it all seems to have gone very quiet on that front...iv heard more about stoke going in for kovac from west ham and kenwyne jones from sunderland lately, and if they were to bring those two in and liam lawrence werent to leave, i doubt they would shift £3m + for walters

Are the loan deals Scotland and McCormack,(Season long loans) to just get them in and time to make them perminate by the end of August or even the Jan transfer window?
0

Seasonticketsteve added 11:56 - Aug 11
Karlos, I think Wigan would prefer to sell as am I right in thinking that Scotland only has a year left on his contract so any loan deal would surely result in him leaving on a free, be it next summer or signing a pre-contract in January-would be a strange one if true.

I heard a midfielder and a defender coming in loan, reckon McCormack will be a Town player by the end of the week as well.

Not sure why we would want Colbeck, would not say no as he was excellent for us last year. Unless he was going to take on the role of Hyam.
I feel we should use the Hyam all season if he is up to it.(Not seen him play)
Butcher, Osmam, Burley etc palyed nearly full season when they young. We must have enough players who can play the odd game there now and then?

on that note Sirboby McCormack wont sign in a month of sundays, chopra never and scotland not on your nelly - lets hope the jinx works in reverse :-)

Seasonticketsteve.

Good point did not know that. Must be why the figure of 750k is being thrown around as I throught that was low. Must be his wages that are the stumbling block if Keanes comment on "we are not going to start throwing 15-20 k a week around

If Walters leaves us for another Championship side, I will lose all respect for the guy. If he moves to Premiership club I could respect the fact he wants to progress and play at the highest level etc.
Me and a friend were talking about possible captain replacement for him, for me it had to be David Norris, but wouldn't be surprised if it would be Leadbitter

I would rather we got somebody permanent rather than on loan. Are future signings conditional on further departures such as Stead or Walters?
