Keane Closing in On Loan Signings
Keane Closing in On Loan Signings
Wednesday, 11th Aug 2010 08:07

Boss Roy Keane says the Blues could make a couple of loan signings by the end of the week. The Town manager says there have been no new developments on Stoke target Jon Walters’s situation.

Keane expects to hear news on his current targets later in the week: “Not tonight, but we’re hopefully pretty close with one or two loan deals maybe to come in on Thursday or Friday, but we’ll hear more on that on Wednesday. I have to say I was very much focusing on the game tonight.”

The Blues boss says there has been no progress on interest in skipper Jon Walters, who missed the Exeter game: “Not that I’m aware of. Jon reported this morning that he wasn’t well and we had to get on and we were obviously one short on the bench because we’d finalised the squad. But Chuck Norris took over and his captaincy was outstanding tonight.”

Stoke are understood to be the frontrunners for Walters’s signature with QPR and other clubs also interested.

The whole syetm of loan players was set up as an emergency/short term solution for clubs who lost key players... We surely don't have to hinge our promotion expectations on other clubs disgarded players?!?!?! Dos Santos was awesome and I don't doubt that most players want to play and will perform, but is this indicative of our chairman not supporting Keano's plans.... We need permanent players signed that want to be the spine of our success!!! COYB & CORK!!

Scotland will be one of the loan signings with the possibility of signing in January for around £750,000 - £1,000,000, the other is very likely to be a defender as Roy said that he was concerned that Smith could pick up knocks due to his playing time.

BlooooCD, I agree with your post but the reality of modern day football is that once Premier League sides have put their squads together at the start of the season, there will be a pool of players available to go out on loan, invariably to Championship sides. These players are not available to buy and if they don't come to us, they will go to our rivals.

The same thing happens further down the chain; we currently have at least 3 players out on loan that I can think of.

PS Why does anyone think that Stoke would lose interest in Walters if he couldn't play for them in the Carling Cup?

Fatboy not so much Stoke loosing interest, maybe Walters feels it will be a chance for him to break into the first team playing in the Cup as i believe he will struggle to get a permanent place in the Stoke first team. Just an idea? Looks more like the deal is disappearing anyway as Stoke have their eye on a number of other proven premiership players....

I think we will need to sign a wing back and a left sided player on loan.
