Keane Hopeful on Wigan Striker Scotland
Keane Hopeful on Wigan Striker Scotland
Thursday, 12th Aug 2010 16:21

Boss Roy Keane says he is hopeful of adding Wigan striker Jason Scotland to his squad in the next few days. The Blues have had a fee believed to be £750,000 accepted by the Latics for the Trinidad and Tobago international.

Keane says that there is still plenty to do before the move is complete: “Having an offer accepted is just the start of the rollercoaster ride in terms of trying to bring a player to a football club.

"I've already spoken to the boy. He's keen to come here and we're keen to get him in. Hopefully we can get the deal done next week. I would expect all these types of dealings to be done over the weekend.”

The Blues boss says Scotland at 31 would add vital know-how: “You always need a bit of experience in your squad and Jason, if we were to get the deal done, would give us that. He’s played in the league, he knows Carlos, he seems like a good lad.

“You can’t have a squad of 17 or 18 players all 20 or 21 years old, you need one or two experienced players.”

Earlier today, Wigan boss Roberto Martinez said two other Championship clubs are also tracking Scotland.

Meanwhile, Keane says he hopes to make another loan signing before the weekend.

I would like Scotland to sign, but McCormack is such a creative player. The team is certainly taking it's shape.

This is a strange one
I really cant see it, Dont think he will go, as we are starting to look like a team for the top six.
I only thing in my mind is if McCormack comes is he a rightsided player?
Cant see Stoke paying 3M for him and Keane will not let him go for less just to get him off the books
Dont know on this one

Walters sold his house some time ago and he has not looked for anything to buy since.. He has been a great servant to the club, but I can't help but think his pace has faded somewhat - Chuck as a new captain works! And things are changing down at Portman Road with some pace and gusto just now, Scotland in my opinion will be a good signing... He is a good size and was brilliant and proven at this level for Swansea.. and if we can get mcCormack then I think we really do look like a team that other teams will fear playing! How long have we waited to be viewed in that light!
I am really looking forward to saturdays game and the season ahead - I just want to see these mouth watering new players holding town shirts in their hands having signed the dotted line!

i know its still early on in the season, but if he signs i've got a feeling good things will happen this season, we'll have a team of 13 irish, 1 canadian, 2 from trinidad,2 hungarians, 1 from bermuda, 12 english, 1 welsh, 1 spanish and 1 argentinian, we need mccormack and we'll then have a scot too!

Jason Scotland has an awesome record with lower league and championship teams and i dont think that Walters has been performing that well this season so far or last and i dont think it will change much just more money to bring players in. No surprise really as he isnt being played much either.

Fingers crossed. Until I see it confirmed this deal is nothing more than a story. We al know how difficult is to attract players from Premiership with their wages to come here. Hopefully this time around we will succeed!

Jon walters, who ?

wont be missed
isnt worth anywhere near £3m
has performed for over 2 two seasons (running around like a headless chicken doesnt constitue "performing")

[TWHACK ] hopefully thats the door on yer arse as yer leave "Mr Average", and thanks for the £3m Stoke - you've been well and truly 'ad!

McCormack and Scotland :D great to signings if possible.
This is one of the first seasons / transfer windows I really feel the squad is imporving.
Walters can go. I wonder if he will play Saturday or not?

DId anyone else see that Cardiff only want 250k for McCormack or did I dream it?

Bluelady, my friend is a farmer and put it in his field to keep the birds off. They were so scared that they brought back the seed they had stolen the year before!

Our Roy really has got a thing about players from Trinidad and Tobago. Dont think he will go back for Dwight Yorke though!
