Norris Proud to Be Captain
Norris Proud to Be Captain

New skipper David Norris says he is proud to have been given the Blues’ armband in the wake of the bust-up between manager Roy Keane and former captain Jon Walters. Norris has already scored three goals this season, including a backheel in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Burnley.

The 29-year-old says he is looking lead the side by scoring even more goals: “I’m very proud and honoured. I know it’s a cliché but this is a big club and it means a great deal.

“I once scored eight in a season and hopefully I can beat that this time around. The formation we are playing now allows me more freedom to get into the opposing box and in that case I should be scoring more often. I can’t remember backheeling the ball in a game before, let alone to put it into the net.”

Norris, who is pleased with four points from the first two league matches, says he won’t comment on the situation regarding his friend Jon Walters: “I don’t want to comment on the relationship between the manager and Jon.

“He has very high standards and wants us all to be focused all the while. He asks for 100 per cent from us, and if you do this he is happy. I feel I can speak to him and that he is approachable and will take on board any points that I might raise.”

Norris has been named Man of the Match by TWTD readers in all three of this season’s games.

I would have picked Leadbitter but I am happy with Norris as skipper.

Chuck Norris is such a good actor that he made several action movies, and got his own tv series!

And he's not that good an actor either ....

I'd just like to add that 6 months ago Jon walters was the best thing since sliced bread and now everyone hates him,
Ok i agree what he has done is wrong in all this transfer thing but to hear people say he wasn't a good player and let us down is a bit harsh i think.
Let's not forget that he was one of our best players last year and IF all this hadn't happened then i think we would all still be singing his praises.....

If he wants to go then Yes he could have gone about it in a better way as we as fans have worshiped him for the time he has been here and just feel that he has stabbed us in the back a bit, But we still have to remember what he done for us and i for one wish him well in whatever or whoever he plays for in the future because we all know what a handfull he can be on his day, It's just unfortunate his heart hasn't been in it for us from the start,

i think Kean deserves a bit of praise in this as well for acting quickly, Alot of managers would have made the player go out a play for the club but he obviously saw that Walters's heart wasn't in it for playing for the club, so hats off for that.

oh and i think Norris is a great captain so well done again Keano......

Agree with everything in the last posting. It's a pity really 'cos Walters was a committed and effective player esp during the 08/09 season.
