Wigan Put Scotland Deal On Hold
Wigan Put Scotland Deal On Hold
Tuesday, 17th Aug 2010 10:18

Town’s move for Wigan striker Jason Scotland is on hold while the Latics secure his replacement, according to reports in Lancashire. Over the weekend, Blues boss Roy Keane said he was hopeful of signing Scotland in time for Saturday’s game at Crystal Palace.

However, Wigan manager Roberto Martinez is said to want to secure a replacement for Scotland before he’ll allow him to move on with Chelsea’s Franco di Santo a loan target. The Latics face Chelsea at the weekend, so the Argentinian wouldn’t be able to play for Martinez’s side until the following week. The Latics boss is also concerned about Victor Moses, who suffered an injury in the 4-0 weekend mauling by Blackpool.

Wigan confirmed that they had accepted an offer believed to be £750,000 from the Blues last week with the player subsequently holding talks with Town.

Meanwhile, ex-Blue Owen Garvan says he won’t be out to show former boss Roy Keane what he’s missing when his Crystal Palace side meet Town on Saturday: "I do not think I have a point to prove to him.

“You do not want to go down that route really, I am not that type of person. I am only interesting in prove a point to myself, the rest will follow.

“I do not really know if I had a good relationship with Keane to be honest but that does not concern me. Those days are gone and all that matters to me now is playing well for Crystal Palace.

"It will probably be a bit strange playing against the lads so early on in the season but it is a game I am looking forward to.

"I know the lads and what they are good at and they know what I am good at so it will be interesting to see who wins out."

Garvan will line-up alongside fellow former Blues Darren Ambrose, Alan Lee and David Wright on Saturday for the club now managed by George Burley. Ex-Town keeper Lewis Price is likely to be on the bench.

Elsewhere, former Blue Richard Wright is being linked with Middlesbrough, having been released at the end of last season. Wright has been training with Palace, where ex-Town keeper-coach Malcolm Webster is also now employed, since leaving Portman Road.

seasonticketsteve - normally agree with all you put, but cant agree this time! Also isnt Lisbie banging them away at the moment? Not my favourite player but given the right playing conditions even he will put them in the back of the net - although he has never i dont believe scored 20+ a season like Scotland has.

On another note, Sky Sports news says Darren O'dea has signed on loan until January... Also Bellamy off to Cardiff on season long loan ... Cue Chopra speculation starting again!
Up the Town!

We will have to agree to disagree-nice to have a good footballing debate for once on here rather then the usual Keane out rubbish but seems to have stopped all of a sudden since our unbeaten start!

Sky Sources: Craig Bellamy to join cardiff on loan, they can get players but we seem to be the only team who cannot get decent ones in, what is really going on at PR all talk no action!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It would be nice to go up this season with the 4 year parchute coming in next season but there are still some town players to get off the books before they can maybe pay for a good signing. Clegg maybe slow but at least he is watching the purse strings. Next season we will be in a better postion as more will leave freeing up wages ie conago etc.
Lets just enjoy this season hopefully getting top 6 and staying away from the bottom like last season. If anyone signs then good but no rush.
Gook luck Town great Start.

Can someone explain to me how cardiff have to hardly lift a finger to get really good players in there squad e.g. Chopra, Whittingham, Bellamy, Ledley, Johnson (ex) while being on the brink of finacial probelems when we are backed by a chairman with money but struggle? I think we need to go alittle above our valuation and wage structure to get Chopra in and because of his relative young age we get him on a 3 year deal and then we have a player thats always a constant goal scoring threat for us which in turn can turn Ipswich into a constant promotion threat too.

Re REDDUST
Cardiff have money probs because of the players that have come in. Surley thats not what we want town to do.
Bellamy wants to join them because it is his home town which we are not.

i think Wigan are in a mess and are likely to be relegated. i cant think they need Scotland at all so why they're holding up deal is puzzling. Maybe the managers on his way out! If they cant complete then Keano will be forced to look elsewhere. i think Chopra will be back on plus whittingham now that leadbitter could be out for weeks

great one ODea a left footed central defender that we dont really need no loan, makes lots of sense to me!!! sorry just a bit fed up with the lack of real action...........

Bellamy, Chopra, Boothroyd & Whittingham in support - that front line elevates Cardiff to promotion favourites in my eyes. Can't see McCormack being happy with being pushed even further down the pecking order so he will be the one on the way out, not Chopra.

What is Clegg doing? Running the country!!?? If this drags out any longer Wickham will be back. All this speculation is rather boring tbh. Bottom line we need another striker, I would rather keep Stead then Priskin, as for Pablo are there any other roles he could be assigned to, Assistant Groundsman, Deputy Teaperson??? If Walters goes what plans have we for his transfer money, Chopra might be in the running then or is the problem his wages?

I assume the Stern John reference was a joke.

Cardiff have signed Bellamy.
Surely we can get a striker. And I can hear Chopra rumours again now.

Wigan stop messing us around. Give us Scotland!

robdaful: I don't think the Bellamy to Cardiff loan deal has gome through... I understand Spurs, Fulham and (add another team here, can't remember) are also interested on taking him on loan. If you were Bellamy were would you want to play, The Premiership or The Championship? He's only been linked with them as its his hometown club. It would be like Dyer being pushed out at West Ham, he would be linked with ITFC, but we couldn't afford him and there would be another Premiership club on hand to offer him a place... in fact more so as Bellamy doesn't have Dyers injury record.

zippyrainbow added 15:14 - Aug 17
I am as optimistic as most people but can anyone seriously see us signing Chopra? Even if Bellamy does go to Cardiff, Chopra will know that if he sticks around at Cardiff with Bellamy as his strike partner, Cardiff will end up in the Premier League faster than he would if he comes here.

Not negative - realistic.
