Boro Latest Club Linked With Walters
Boro Latest Club Linked With Walters
Tuesday, 17th Aug 2010 11:34

Middlesbrough are claimed to have joined the clubs chasing wantaway wideman Jon Walters, according to a newspaper in the North-East. Citing sources in East Anglia, it’s reported that Gordon Strachan’s club have made an enquiry regarding the £3 million-rated Republic of Ireland B international.

The link probably comes from Roy Keane’s comments over the weekend indicating that a club from outside the Premier League had made a bid for the Stoke and West Brom target: “There’s been another offer come in, more than Stoke, which I’m glad about because they’ve just been tip-toeing around the situation.

“I’ve said to the owner, if these other clubs, these big Premier League teams, don’t want to come back for him, we’ll sell him to the other team. That’s my opinion but the owner’s obviously negotiating with these other clubs.”

QPR are more widely believed to be the non-Premier League club interested, having reportedly had a £2.5 million offer rebuffed earlier in the summer, but if there's any truth in today's report a switch to Teesside may be more attractive to Walters, who is understood to want to move back up north.

On Saturday boss Roy Keane said Walters would not play for Town again while he remains manager of the club after overreacting to being stripped of the captaincy.

Scotland? Screw that; go one better and send him off to the Faroe Islands, I am sure he would fit in quite nicely there.

He wants a Premier League move. No way we are selling to a rival in our division surely!?

Typical modern day footballer.

Selfish and feels they are bigger than the club.

I always saw Walters as a loyal player, true to the club and fans and a hard working lad. Now all i see is a big fat nob :|

i cant see Brough being attractive to JW. it would be a sideways move which doesnt make sense. Maybe JW has burnt his boats and now has nowhere to go!! But i cant see him coming back with tail between his legs either so something must happen soon. QPR would be fallback option.

Brough have just sold there Keeper for 2.5 mill, so they have got the cash. He won't want to go to QPR, he wants a move up north.

He's still only worth the 100k we paid for him. He's had one good season a couple of years ago. Do one Jon, maybe back to Chester.

Watching the preseason i thought Walters had playered a lot better than i had seen over the last couple of seasons then find out he wants out.
Plays better to get out.
Not sorry to see him go.

robdaful: So you think Walters is loyal to Ipswich town and its fans? You need to see a man in a white coat!

SiBo - What I mean is I always saw Walters as Loyal when he is playing in a town shirt. As he hasn't been happy for ages but he never gave it anyless than 100% while playing.
I'm not a Walters fan. I only value him at 1 - 1.5m. Now he wants out to a top club i.e Stoke. But I don't see him as a nob as, if there was a promotion avaliable at your work then of course you are going to go for it. You would be seen crazy if you didn't.
But I think Keane is right with what he has done. As it was Walters that said to Keane, "I'm not playing if I'm not Captian" So good old Keane said "Fine you will never play again."
