Town Linked With Pitman
Town Linked With Pitman
Wednesday, 18th Aug 2010 08:47

Town are amongst a number of clubs said to be eyeing Bournemouth striker Brett Pitman. The Blues, Blackpool, Doncaster, Swansea, Watford and QPR are all believed to be tracking the 22-year-old.

Cherries chairman Eddie Mitchell has denied reports that Blackpool have already made a £400,000 offer for the Jersey-born frontman, but admits that there have been enquiries and that plenty of scouts watched Pitman net a hat-trick in Saturday’s 5-1 hammering of Peterborough.

The 6ft tall striker made his debut for the Cherries in 2005, having joined Bournemouth at 16 after playing youth football for Jersey side St Pauls. Since then he has scored 62 goals in 115 starts and 82 sub appearances, including 28 last season as Bournemouth won promotion to League One.

Meanwhile, former Town academy and reserves midfielder Jai Reason has signed a one-year deal with Blue Square Premier side Crawley Town having been released by Cambridge United at the end of last season.

He's got a good goals per game ratio, allbeit at a lower standard, & I reckon it would be worth a gamble. However, still makes you wonder why on earth we sold Rhodes 12 months ago

Yeah as bedsitfc has said not the same as Chopra, Scotland or McCormack.
I'd be disipointed with this signing after a summer chasing proven players and I'd prefer to have kept Rhodes.
However if he goes to Blackpool and scores a load then I'll feel bad.
Hopefully we can get Pitman and another striker. i.e one we have been chasing - Scotland/Chopra or someone else like Fryatt or DJ Campbell

Sounds promising - but lets face it with competition for his signature and reports that an offer may already have been made we don't stand a chance of signing him. Cleggy has proved himself unable to conclude deals when we are the only interested party, I for one don't rate his chances when other clubs are involved. The sooner transfers are dealt with by some-one that understands football, the better.

According to SSN, Blackpool have made an offer of £400,000 which could rise to £600,000. Is he premier league qulaity?

Hmmm. A high-scoring lower league striker tipped for big things. Reminds me of Sam Parkin. Lets hop0e he does better if he does come. As stated above, this is getting tedious. Just sign a feckin' striker!

Blandford you are spot on...we have no chance of landing him.
We cannot even sign a player who supposedly had the pen in his hand with the contract in front of him.

This does seem to be detracting us away from thatbig signing we were close to signing. I like everyone else on here just want to hear who we have dined and what time the press conference is. Fed up of rubbish speculation by the way! Can't believe I'm moaning when our start to this season has been so suprisingly good

I think with the Rhodes thing, was IMO,that Keane saw Wickham was a better prospect and he felt that Rhodes would never make the grade at that level for a few years and a £850,000 for him was a good deal.
Only time will tell if he was wrong to let him go, I think he made the right decision looking at how he performed last year, Played well last season but not one to take us forward. Would have liked to see him given a run in the first team.

Should think they'll make their mind up soon - it's all got beyond a joke now hasn't it.

Haha I've come across Brett personally and whilst he is a good player and one for the future I'm not too sure he'd cut it in the championship just yet, and question marks over his attitude. Maybe worth a gamble but certainly no better than wickham imo. Not particulary quick, skillfull though!

LETS REMEMBER WE HAVE SIGNED MANY PROMISING PLAYERS FROM LOWER LEAGUES AND A GOOD FEW HAVE BEEN VERY SUSSESFUL SO WE SHOULD TAKE A CHANCE ON SOME AS THE FEE AND WAGE WILL NOT BE TO HIGH

Phil - couldn't you have written this in shorthand?

AGREE, pippaine players are not just born into the prem, they emerge and work up to it,albeit some are signed on to books at early age.I think it would be worth a punt,i have bigger doubts about the clubs ability to sign players!

He is a goalscorer but might struggle in the Championship to find his feet. Would rather someone with experience in this league.

Jersey - Stewie wasn't very quick either. He was quite good.

alot of people on here saying they would rather a proven striker but still if we are chasing young talent this should be exciting news rather than jordan rhodes this and chopra that. at the end of the day we all knew and even keano knew after selling rhodes that it was a mistake and we have to put that behind us.
This is the kind of news i like to see Ipswich eyeing up lower league talent that has a great goals to game ratio.
we should be doing more of this and gambling on some players! at the end of the day id rather town spend little money on a player that could be perhaps valuble in the future of itfc.

Up the town and keep looking for that talent!

Pittman sounds like a more imaginative option than forever hankering after Chopra.

Jai Reason?–oh yes, the lad the great Phil Ham predicted was ready to make the breakthrough into the first team two years ago. ;-)

Sounds like another Sam Parkin to me... If we are going to get a striker from a lower league let at least be Austin or Lambert.
And what about Vassel? I read Leeds are trying to get him. He is a free agent and if Leeds think they can get him why can't we?

I would personally look at Charlie Austin at Swindon who scores for them week in week out.
