Martin Liking Life at Charlton
Martin Liking Life at Charlton

On-loan midfielder Lee Martin says he would love to join League One Charlton permanently if Town don’t want to keep him. The former Manchester United man has made a promising start to his Addicks career, scoring his first goal in last week’s Carling Cup defeat to Shrewsbury.

Martin said: “If I’m not wanted at Ipswich I would love to be at Charlton. In the two weeks I’ve been here I’ve felt more wanted than I did in my year at Ipswich. I’m enjoying my football and I’m looking forward to training."

Speaking shortly after the 23-year-old moved on loan to the Valley, Town boss Roy Keane said that the Blues could reassess Martin’s situation halfway through the season, hinting that he could be recalled if he impresses: “We were happy for Lee to go there to resurrect things because it’s gone a bit flat for Lee since he’s come here.

“He’ll get a run of games there and we’ll see how it pans out. We can look at it again in January.”

Martin joined Town from Manchester United last summer for a fee somewhere around the £1.6 million mark, signing a deal until 2013 on wages understood to be in the region of £13,000-a-week, much of which the Blues are likely to continue to be paying during his time with Charlton.

Forget the Man U connection. He was loaned out to Sheff Utd and Sunderland and was total pants at both. How on earth his over inflated signing and wages was ever sanctioned is completely beyond me.

Just thought of something. Maybe Keane thought that he was buying the original Lee Martin from Man Utd who scored the winning goal in the 1990 FA Cup final replay. Little did Keane know that he was buying this muppet doppelganger. Although, come to think of it the original Lee Martin was said to be crap too.

Keep him on loan till he becomes their top goalscorer and then nick him back. He definitely has something, whatever that is.

What a knob this bloke is. We pay him 13k a week for nothing but rubbish and he slags us off for not loving him. The Intelligence of some of these players is unbelievable. Great Post by Suffolk_n_good just about sums him up.

This is hardly the character we are looking for at this club and if this is the height of Charlton's ambition they'll be in league 1 for sometime to come.

look, i think hes useless too....sell him by all means, but is it really a crime to tell the truth and say he wasnt wanted by the club (only he knows that and us fans cannot pretend we know). Afterall you lot love it when keane 'speaks truthfully'...if he came out saying the players heart wasnt in it or something would you all be calling him a to$$ser? Its exactly the same principle....and i think this is the part where i call you all hypocrits for 'not supporting the club' because youre slagging off a player.....seeing as when i critisise keane (rightfully so) i get called a 'non-supporter'....utter bull$hit!!!!!

P.S keane out.

funny how when keane speaks his mind its great that he is such a wise oracle but when a player speaks his mind 99% of the comments on here are about what a useless player he is and how he should shut up and get lost etc...i thought the uk had freedom of speech for all and not just mediocre managers from the south of ireland
