Make a steady start in your first game, Jon....and don't score a spectacular opener like you did for us on debut!!!

We've just spent more than 3x the amount we got for Stead on his replacement.
Stead's got a three year contract.
Scotland's only got a two year contract.
Am I missing the point ??

Although I wasn't a big fan, I do feel that he had started the season well and despite Scotland's arrival we do appear short of forwards and I'm yet to be convinced that Scotland is worth 1/2 million more!

Credit to the club and to his profession, good luck Steady.

Cannot believe he is allowed to play on saturday though, big mistake.

Sums up the relative ambitions of the clubs though I reckon...Bristol City take Stead, they have signed Pitman and already have Maynard.
We ship out three strikers and bring in one and that was the area we all agree needed strengthening....madness

Good luck Jon...may you bang in the goals after saturday's game to prove a few people wrong.

Q...I thought the floodgates were supposedly going to open once Priskin got his first goal of the season?!...he's the one that should've been shoved out.

Sorry but just cannot see how this Stead out / Scotland in, benefits us - I am personally totally disillusioned.
Jon Stead has been superb for us this season and has shown us what he is capable of doing for us, hence much interest from elsewhere for him - where is the benefit with one in / one out ? - STILL SHORT ON NUMBERS.
Who knows at this stage what Scotland will do, or even if he will settle here, all still to be proved or otherwise - with Stead we knew the answers, and he wanted to stay and play for us.

WELL PI--ED OFF FOR SURE. Yet another crazy move - and as much as I hate to say this - we are going nowhere with decisions like this.

DISGUSTING, DISGUSTING, DISGUSTING to let Stead go under any circumstances - but to let him go for £225,000 is ABSOLUTELY CRIMINAL.
I have no faith in the people negotiating deals for this club anymore - and believe me this really hurts, but I will not be letting these people have anymore of my money to play around with - after 40 years as a supporter I have had enough, of what's going on at the club I love.

Does anybody realise that in the last year of a players contract his value decreases!!

yes i do but giving him away for peanuts makes no sense even if we got one season from him and went for nothing at end its ridiculous you dont have an argument wickets

This is a crazy move, Stead may not have been a prolific scorer but his workrate has given the chance for other players to score this season. How does Clegg allow the move to go through and let him play against us this Saturday, does the man know anything about football. Stead would have worked well alongside Scotland and I wish him the best in his future but not on Saturday.
Surely he was not on that high wages that ME could not afford him, look at the bigger picture Mr Evans you will only get your money back when we are back in the Premier League !!!!

Haven't read all the comments on here but I reckon Chopra is on his way else I'm sure Keano would have pulled the plug on Steady going. Unless Steady had already made up his mind after being told he could leave. What will happen wih Priskin though? Doesn't appear to be in the first XI so surely send him out on loan again. Of course this is only if Chops comes to the hallowed blue land.

I would agree he has had a good start to the season, but be relaistic - he was in a shop window and lots of scouts watching him.

I'm very happy to see him leave. My worry from early last year was the distinct problem that no other forward was able to play along side stead. Wickham, counago, john, priskin and walters never seemed to work. Yes stead did score goals but not regular enough, I agree a striker should be slightly selfish, but not the extent of letting better positioned player a chance to score.

Again, I thought he was superb against Burnley and the other games, but with an agent trying to set you up you will put in the extra effort.

Bye bye stead.

Ready Steady Gone - best of luck, not your biggest fan due to the lack of consistent goals but could never doubt your effort.
