Stead Won't Celebrate Goal
Stead Won't Celebrate Goal
Friday, 27th Aug 2010 11:27

Former Town striker Jon Stead says he won’t celebrate if he scores a debut goal for his new side Bristol City against the Blues on Saturday. Stead left Portman Road for Ashton Gate for a fee of £225,000 earlier in the week, signing a three-year deal.

The 27-year-old said: "I'll be happy if I score a goal, don't get me wrong, but I won't go crazy or anything like that. There will be no celebration.

"It's a case of being respectful. I had a good relationship with the Blackburn fans and it's the same with Ipswich.

"I thoroughly enjoyed my time there and the fans were great to me. They got behind me and backed me, even when I wasn't playing well, and that's something I'll always remember. I certainly won't be rubbing it in if I score on Saturday."

Stead says he bears former boss Roy Keane no ill-will: "I definitely don't have anything to prove to the manager at Ipswich. I understand the reasons for me having to leave. He wanted to bring in new players and we parted on good terms, which is nice.

"I'm more concerned with doing a good job for Bristol City and putting my career back on track."

Bah! I'm so annoyed that my favourite player has, again, been sold. It sucks. We'll miss your badassery, Steadinho.

Norris is next, just to warn you all, cos he's my new favourite.

Top bloke, your attitude and professionalism is a lesson for all. Your actions this season have ensured you will always get a warm welcome back at PR, and we all wish you well for your career after Saturday.

Sod's law, He will score with just 1 chance, after always needing multiple chances for us.

But good luck for the future.

Hopefully with 2 new strikers in Stead and Pitman they will be finding their feet and not gelling.

However knowing our luck, both will get debut goals! :(

Proves again, not that he needed to, that he's a top bloke. I liked him and although he maybe didn't get the goals that we hoped for he always played for the team. His approach and conduct leading up to his move was exemplary and shamed Walters. I was at the Exeter game and ran himself into the ground for 120 minutes. Top pro.......hope he doesn't score, or that we win 2-1 if he does
;-)

Jon Stead is a top guy and will be sadly missed. Like most of you I think Keane is perhaps making a mistake in letting him depart so rapidly and he will probably score on Saturday against Town.

I can also understand that because Keane did not buy him and had sold him before that his days were numbered but so too are Town's attacking options with Connor Wickham still out and Priskin not scoring.

We cannot depend on Norris and Leadbitter to save us every game and Jason Scotland is not yet match fit!

It's a pity some of the other players who have left could not be a 'man' and understand the pros and cons of being a professional footballer - well said Steady and as long as we are 3-up I will clap you for tapping in a last minute consolation goal.

I just can't understand why we sold Stead. Now (and it seems there will be no more additions to the team before the woindow closes) we only have 3 strikers - one of them (Connor) is injured and on top of that he is 17 years old, another (Priskin) is useless, and the third (Scotland) maight become a star but he is new to the team and you never know how he may react to the new conditions. We cannot rely on Norris to score all our goals and to get us promoted by himself...
I say - if there was no money for another striker we should have kept Steady!
