Town to Make McPhail Move Today?
Town to Make McPhail Move Today?
Tuesday, 31st Aug 2010 10:17

Town boss Roy Keane will look to try and complete the signing of Cardiff’s Stephen McPhail before the transfer window closes later today, according to a report in Wales. McPhail was first mentioned in connection with the Blues early this month and again yesterday.

Keane said over the weekend that new additions were unlikely before the window closed but has also indicated that he is looking to make three loan signings, amongst them a midfielder.

McPhail, who has only a year remaining on his Cardiff contract, is well-known to Keane, the two having played together with Ireland .

The 30-year-old is fit again having undergone a cartilage operation earlier in the summer and was amongst Cardiff’s subs as they won 2-0 at Portsmouth at the weekend.

The transfer window closes at 6pm today, but Football League clubs can make 'emergency' loan signings from next week.

Fair point bluelady, didn't mean to sound unsympathetic about cancer, just stating the fact that it is relevant asking if he is over the ilness as it is relevant wondering if his knee is fixed. Interestingly there is no mention of him getting cancer on wiki, however there is info on him getting funny coloured fingers!!

Anyone know how much he'd cost, is it likely to be a loan?

Seems to me the cancer question was fully justified given that its not just getting over the disease but the treatment for it as well.

I can only speak from my own experience but it took the best part of a year after treatment finished before I felt physically 'normal' again although I freely admit I wasnt as fit as a professional footballer in the first place!

Matty Fryatt would be great. was watching Leicester at weekend on tv and wondered how they managed to retain to many decent players - thought then surely if we put in an offer they'd have to let players go.

i think if we offered them 2 mil they would take it, id pay 2.5 mil max for Fryatt

Good day campers!

A very welcome signing if it happens, I think any would be today if im honest. Think we may need maybe 1/2 more players just to cover for injuries/suspensions etc.

Not expecting any business today so if anything happens then it is a nice surprise. Great result on Saturday by the way, keep it up boys!

No more strikers coming then. Have to say I'm very happy with the team as it is, with the only concern being if one of leadbitter/norris/peters gets injured. Fingers crossed that doesn't happen but McPhail would definitely add cover in that area.

I think he would be an excellent signing giving us cover in an area where we are short in numbers. I hope its true and hope he signs

i see we keep saying that if leadbitter/norris get injured then were up the creek without a paddle....
Have we forgotten someoneor maybe even two in that statement people???
Hyam and Edwards in my opinion have been like having two new signings for us and really look a class above in the games i've seen this season.
I know Keano has had to play hyam alot so far but once again shown that he is a great manager by giving him a brake on saturday, i also think it was a bit of good man management as he was one if not the best player on the pitch saturday and maybe taking him off was a way of letting us lot show our appreciation to just him. he even started to run off the pitch and Keano had to signal to him to slow down...lol
Looking at our squad of players, it honestly looks like we have a real chance this year and it's good to see that Kean is lining up potential signings like this and not just bringing in a signing to please the fans.

In Kean we trust.......well 75% of us do which is better than the 11% at the begining of the season. It's good to see that people are seeing the light now and that Kean has the ability to be a successful manager and take us back the the good times....

Experienced cover definitely needed for the holding role. At present only alternative for the position is Leadbitter, who like Norris is far better when given the freedom to get up and down the pitch. Hyam is a natural in the holding position, agressive, simple passing, good reading.

McPhail offers a different type of option, very good touch, ability to make room for himself and pick a forward pass, and could probably cover the LCM position also. However would be relying on Norris and Leadbitter to win the battles. Definitely wouldnt have the legs for a 442. Like a lot of RK's signings has Premier league experience.

If there is an agressive RB to come in, McPhail would provide balance to the team. With Peters remaining at RB, I would be very concerned about the lack of physical presence with McPhail also in the side.

Doesn't seem to have been any progress, nothing about this on the bbc TDD page, lets hope we are just keeping it under wraps and will announce it before 6 today

is it six deadline as sky is saying 9 hours to go which indicates a 12 close?

Oh, so he is Keano's mate is he?? That explains everything. Get him in and give him a last fat pay cheque just like his other mate Colin Healy.

Good addition IF stays fit. He had a niggling injury last season I seem to remember.
