Delaney and Townsend Doubts With Virus
Delaney and Townsend Doubts With Virus
Thursday, 16th Dec 2010 11:06

Town boss Roy Keane says Damien Delaney and Andros Townsend are both doubts ahead of Saturday’s live Sky game with Leicester City at Portman Road (KO 5.20pm) after picking up a virus. Better news is that striker Connor Wickham could be in with a chance of being amongst the Blues subs against the Foxes.

Keane said: “One or two lads have had a virus this week, Damien Delaney and Andros Townsend. We’re hoping they’ll be OK for the weekend but we’ll know more over the next day or so.

“There’s a bug going round of some sort. Andros had to leave training earlier yesterday, Damien’s missing today, but hopefully it is a 24-hour virus.”

The Town manager says the squad were given some time off in the wake of the Preston defeat, the Blues’ sixth successive league loss: “I gave the players Sunday and Monday off, they had their Christmas do. There were no arrests or anything like that, so that must have gone OK.

“We were back out on the training pitch on Wednesday, we’ll train today, we’ll train tomorrow and just keep working hard to try and to turn things around.”

The Blues boss, in good spirits and shaven despite the current run, says keeper Márton Fülöp will be back in training today after his ankle injury, while Connor Wickham, who has been out with a thigh problem, could be on the bench on Saturday depending on how his next few training sessions go.

Midfielder Luke Hyam is also on the mend after his torn hamstring but is a week away from first team involvement. Gareth McAuley is back running after his achilles operation but won’t return to match action until January, while Alan Quinn still remains on the sidelines having been given an injection to try to help him get over the groin problem he suffered in pre-season.

So that is the reason nobody had seen Keano, they all had been given time off.
Is this another tactic ?????

I think we had 'a virus' going round in the last dark days of Magic....

Time for change.

I don't think they deserved a Xmas do after the shockers they've put in over the last couple of months - Bah Humbug!

Anyway hopefully Damien and Andros will be available as they're two of our better performers this season.

No surprise that Delaney won't be playing. Him and Keane fell out didn't they? Now a mystery virus knocks him off his feet?? Hmmmmm

“I gave the players Sunday and Monday off, they had their Christmas do. There were no arrests or anything like that, so that must have gone OK."

Thart sounds like he didn't bother to go. That's team building for you.

And that fact that he commented that there were no arrests sounds like he would not have been surprised if there had been any. What does that tell you abouit his opinion of the players? This may have been a flippant remake as an attempt at humour, but I find Town's plight no joking matter.

What we should be hearing from Roy is what he has done to eliminate these costly defensive errors and what he is doing to cure our goal shy strikers!

Although what I would most like to hear is the door closing behind him as he turns the lights in his office off.

Was RK not invited to their Christmas party then?

I bet that Christmas do was hell of a laugh!!! I have no doubt that the Club paid for it, maybe they should have fore gone a Christmas do this year & used the money to give everyone a discount at a home game instead to encourage the crowd to come back. Gave the players days off, what next a bonus for loosing 10 games in a row maybe!?!?!? You have to admit isn't it a bit of a coincedence about Delaney?

Excuse after excuse, so cheesed off with it all...... Fork.....

Yeah, I bet the players Christmas do was a hoot. Did any of the players get a dartboard with Keano's face on it???

Predictable half empty glass negativity from some as usual. Cheer up you bunch of miserable s*ds. Its nearly Christmas. Some of you ironically only seem happy when things arent going well. If we won each game you'd be miserable because you'd have nowt to moan about. Believe it or not, life could be worse.

These poor s*ds would mind swapping with you, I'm sure. Merry Christmas to you all.

Doesnt really affect the squad as Delaney and Townsend are hardly heavily featured in selection in recent games .
At least Keane has another excuse lined up if we lose "its because Damo and Andros werent available , and we had to rely on kids in nappies " ,even if i wasnt picking them when they could play

I wonder if the players chipped in and got Keano a few tactic boards for Xmas?? He will be able to kung fu them to pieces on Christmas Day in his back garden !!!!

Most significant news here: Keane shaved.

ITFCKeano ... i for one dont care about solving the worlds problems you want to talk about that go onto a different website . I care about the mess Keane has made of our club and the fact i pay high prices , a lot money and time travelling for very poor entertainment ,and the fact the club is hurtling towards Div 1 with dwindling crowds and a lot of unrest amongst supporters .
I suppose your half full glass is that we have Roy Keane as manager going by your name ?

Some people are picking for the sake of it - Sorry Bergholtblue but you are one of them.. Its only a joke about the arrests (or flippant remark as you put it). We are all frustrated with mistakes/performances etc but at least be constructive when commenting. Am convinced if Phil posted an article on here entitled "Keane goes for a walk in the countryside" many of you on here would be moaning that he didnt hop or run, or that he shouldnt be allowed to walk again, or that he should be walking by the sea...
He is doing a rubbish job, most people agree, be reasonable though people..
And Whoppit.... Put Dwight Yorkes Auto-biography down now...

An earlier post said that Roy Keane is such a liar, Sorry he may be many things but he is not a liar. he always tells you the truth regardless of what people think.
I know he has many many faults at present but he is good at media talk and gives nothing away....unlike Magilton who used to say what players he will be going in for...G-Mac, Norris, Nugent (Every transfer window).
Yes at present i dont think RK is doing a very good job at all but if he changes that good on him.
some people believe anything they read in newspapers, internet, and autobiographies!

whoppit added 14:55 - Dec 16
LOL Sammy - it's such a good read that I can't put it down. Especially the parts about Jordan and the in depth colour pictures.

And Keane should take a long walk on a short pier. Why is he in the countryside when he is supposed to be working??????
