Press Conference This Morning
Press Conference This Morning
Friday, 7th Jan 2011 08:33

Town have called a press conference for 11am where it is expected they will confirm Roy Keane's departure from the club, as reported overnight.

The Blues could potentially also announce Keane's replacement with Paul Jewell set to be the new man, although it may be that Ian McParland or one of the other backroom staff will be in charge in the interim.

A decision had to be made, because if Roy Keane had still been in charge at the end of the season the club would only have about 10,000 season ticket renewals.

Legend .....but Jewell then titted it up massively at Derby didn't he?

Was it us who beat Derby and caused Jewell to finally resign?

We will all have our different views and opinions on whoever gets appointed... I would love Hughton but whoever they put in the hot seat is sure to be able to attract players and can start with a clean sheet clearing out the journeymen and dross that is there just now. If its Jewel I will be right behind him and the club! COYB'S! FORK! Ooop's, he almost has! ha ha!

Jewell has a wealth of experience, both of sucess and failure, and I am sure after his break from management will come in refreshed and will apply all he has learnt from those past sucesses and failures.

I'd love to see us groom a young manager for a 10 year tenure of sucess, but the game is a different business now compared with even Burley's time here.

I hope we can all now put aside our pessimism and fears and get behind the new manager, whomever he is.

Personally, I'd rather have someone who has the experience of both sucess and failure than a complete rookie.

So if it is Jewell, whatever reservations we may have, lets welcome him and show him he has the full support of us as Town fans.

Wish I shared your optimism that 'whoever they put in the hot seat is sure to be able to attract players' BloooooCd.
I believe that contrary to popular opinion it wasnt Keano who was the stumbling block. Time will no doubt tell.

I wrote an article for TWTD in April 2009 after magilton left entitled 'Paul could be the Jewell in Town's Crown' (or something cheesy like that). I stand by what I said then, Jewell has got both Bradford and Wigan promoted and kept them up, building a squad from scratch with the help of a generous chairman. OK so he had a bit of a bad spell at Derby, but he did inherit arguably the worst team to ever play in the Prem!!! Keane had achieved one promotion before he took over but he inherited a Sunderland team with alot of talent. I think there is a huge difference between getting a team promoted once, and then proving u can do it again. If Jewell is put in charge then lets hope that he can put together a strike force akin to Ellington and Roberts, who blitzed the division. Theres no reason why Wickham and Scotland can't be that partnership. Maybe Roberts would fancy being re-united with Jewell?

I have a feeling we might regret this, but, I hope I'm proved wrong, of course. The new guy will get my full support, but I'm not holding my breath for anyone I'd consider good.

Not Curbishley for crying out out !

Jewell would get my vote.

Lambert would be great just to give Nodge a taste of their own.

listen Chris Houghton got newcastle up with a Premier squad that had only just come down, Curbs has not been in football for years and managed to balls up West ham! Who the hell do you lot think will come here? Rafa? The special one? We are Ipswich town ffs and we sit 19th in the Championship. Live in the real world!
People may doubt Jewell because of what he did at Derby but he also got tiny clubs like Bradford and Wigan promoted and had them playing tidy attacking football.

I feel sorry for the poor sod whoever it is. Jewell has not even been appointed yet and half of you have written him off already.

Whoever is appointed, lets give him a chance.

Out of football for two years. No-one suspect there is a reason for that ? His last team was a laughing stock on the field and he was literally a laughing stock off it. And yes now we're saying let's get behind the manager after we hounded out the last three. As people suggesting Keane's term were saying, who else did we really think would come here ? Woeful, woeful day.

Jewell could be in the same mould as Holloway. He had taken Leicester down to the 3rd tier, got sacked, and went and studied different styles around Europe. He learnt from his mistakes, changed to attacking 4-3-3 and look what he has done to Blackpool.

Jewell could do the same for us - probably not this season mind.

Not my choice, but then nor was Royle..... I will give him my full support.

Dear oh dear

I feel sorry for Jewell if it is indeed him, it wont take long for the HATE crew on here to start calling for his head, we would be better off going down, at least then the real thick and thin supporters would be there.

Look forward to next Wednesday's attendance, sure it will be a record breaker....!

Good Luck Keano
