Town Topic: Who Should Replace Keane?
Town Topic: Who Should Replace Keane?

With Roy Keane sacked 20 months into his Portman Road tenure, who would you like to replace him?

Paul Jewell is the early front-runner, Chris Hughton, Gary Megson and Alan Curbishley have all been linked, but who do you want?

I know it'll never happen but I'd pick Dario Gradi. He may be a pensioner now but all his Crewe teams have always played decent football, he's got massive experience and has uncovered some wonderful players over the years through Crewe's excellent youth policy.

Failing that either Keith Hill from Rochdale or Paul Tisdale of Exeter. Both play decent attractive football at their clubs and would be great finds like Paul Lambert at Norwich.

There's nothing wrong with lower division managers provided they don't employ tactics like John Duncan.

Roy Hodgson would be a brilliant capture and by far the best candidate for Town.

A big no thank you to:

Paul Jewell, Martin O'Neill, Megson, Fat Sam, George Burley.

Settle for Hughton, possibly Curbishley but think he has been out of the game to long and whilst not a bad manager I think he is a bit overrated.

Poyet & Tarrico is an interesting one.

Sean O'Driscoll or Chris Coleman perhaps.

Why are so many fans against Paul Jewell - a very good track record in this league

La Paz - A very well-written, balanced and insightful piece IMHO.

I am with you on your views every step of the way...

I'm for conspiracy theory! I understand that Roy Hodgson is a friend of Marcus Evans (???). Therefore could the timing of the 'amicable split' between Liverpool and Hodgson and Keane's sacking be significant ??????????? Looks suspicious to me.

Well my favourites would be O'Driscoll, Howe or Curbishley if we could get one of them. Jewell and Hughton are sensible options just below those three in my opinion.

1. Gus Poyet and Taricco
2. O'Driscoll
3. Curbs/Hodgson

NOT MEGSON OR JEWELL...We've got to be brave and look for the bright young managers not the bleedin' out of work Manager MerryGo Round!

Its vital for this club to make progress that our very inexperienced senior managers and current owner get this next appointment right. Sven was the leading candidate before the appointment of RK. ME wanted a media figure head to front his new purchase. He wanted high profile and he got it with RK.

I can only hope and prey that both have learnt from this error of judgement and now concentrate on appointing the right person for "Footballing reasons" rather than the high profile. I am sure ME will offer some finances to whoever is appointed. But we all know this is not a bottomless pit. He needs to attract a man who will seek new up comming talent from the lower leagues and groom them into becoming better players.

Give Keane 200 million and i'm sure even he could buy you success. Town are not in this position, therefore it was foolish to believe it so. Any young and inspiring manager who believes in his players and can motorvate them accordingly will in my opinion succeed. Jewel did this whilst at Bradford and whilst at Wigan in their early stages. Curbs also did this whilst at Charlton....I am not convinced due to the time they have spent out of the game as if they have that same hunger.

A fine mixture of desire and experience is what is needed. O'Drisscol appears to be working wonders with a very limited budget. He is perhaps what is needed...A bigger stage to enhance his own progression.

To be honest there are lots of good candidates in the frame who could do a good job. There are no guarantees with any of them.

1- O'Driscoll is top of my list, on the up and plays attacking football
2- Poyet & Tarrico would be exciting, also try to play the right way
3- Jewell could be very good if he gets us playing
4- Houghton is a great coach and could do a job
5- Big Sam is a good manager but I'm not sure about him fitting in here
6- Curbishley I'm not sure about as he has zero charisma but would like the idea more IF he brought Holland in with him
7- Megson, no thanks, not keen on his style of football and the Norwich connection would make the job even harder for him

Is Hodgson in the mix now? Anyway, I liked how Doncaster played under O'Driscoll. Curbishley of course. These 3 guys would need a little time but they'd build attractive sides. Maybe Jewell, Allardyce, and Hughton would get us up quicker with a team of 8-foot tall robo-players. Don't know. What do we want? Paul Lambert is starting to look like the complete manager and will sooner or later be snatched off the Cacknaries by somebody - why not us?

I would like O'Driscoll, Curbishley or Poyet. I would have Jewell ahead of Megson, ferguson or Burley. By the sounds of today we need some rebuilding quickly.

Curbishley for me - whether that's likely or not is another matter.

Terry Butcher, we will be in league 1 next season, he is passionate about the club and can help with the total rebuild we need.

1. Hodgson (wildest dreams time!)
2. Butcher
3. Howe
Defo not Megson (please God no). Jewell only if Megson is the alternative.
