Edwards Staying for Further Year
Edwards Staying for Further Year
Friday, 28th Jan 2011 16:55

TWTD understands that midfielder Carlos Edwards’s stay at Town will stretch beyond the end of the season, the Trinidadian having triggered a clause in his contract which entitles him to an additional year on the two-year deal he signed when he joined the Blues from Sunderland for £1.35 million in September 2009.

Edwards was recently claimed to have been offered a new contract by Town, but it seems likely that the reports were referring to the additional year.

http://www.twtd.co.uk/news.php?storyid=17580>Speaking in December, former boss Roy Keane revealed that the club have options to extend a number of players’ contracts, defender Damien Delaney understood to be amongst them, along with keeper Brian Murphy: “The club has options to extend the deals of one or two boys, people like Murph the goalkeeper.”

Those whose initial terms run to June 2011 are Brian Murphy, Gareth McAuley, Damien Delaney, David Norris, Arran Lee-Barrett, Ian McLoughlin, Alan Quinn, Luke Hyam, Troy Brown, Tom Eastman, Colin Healy, Billy Clark, Reggie Lambe, Ronan Murray, Jack Ainsley, David Cawley, Jamie Griffiths and Conor Hourihane, plus Pablo Couñago and Kevin Lisbie, who are out on loan for the season at Crystal Palace and Millwall respectively.

In addition to that list of 20, first-year pro Seb Dunbar, a left-back, is contracted until this month, having previously done well enough to win an extension to a deal which was up in September.

On Monday, manager Paul Jewell revealed that he was due to talk to skipper David Norris and defender Gareth McAuley late this week regarding their futures and wants to keep them at Town.

The pair have turned down the new two-year deals which were offered before Christmas with Portsmouth chasing the midfielder.

Was never worth £1.35 million but thats not his fault. I would have got rid but what do I know. As I have said on here in weeks gone by I would not want him in the trenches with me. Never a defender in a million years and not that marvellous going forward as he has lost his pace. His salary could have been saved and we miss another opportunity. Just hope PJ makes him a better player than his predecessor. Just get Mac and Norris signed up for goodness sake.

He has waited to see if there was another offer from anywhere else and then triggered the extra year option himself, hardly earth shattering news is it. I knew there would be a signing today, sadly not the one I hoped for, let's be honest he is average at best, don't lose sight of how poor we have been this season, one win against Doncaster does'nt change things, we are still a pretty average side.

I struggle to understand how anyone can knock this guy on the basis of the emirates game. Agreed he has the ability to disappear in a game from time to time, but from my seat at arsenal he was the only player in a blue shirt that looked like a top flight player. He's got the ability to be class and this is good news as far as I'm concerned.

AberdeenTractor when we get a right back he will move to right wing? No hope if Clegg is trying to seal the deal. Clegg had Austin down for the day but could not secure a deal Burnley signs at seals it in a morning. Yes they have their parachute money for a few seasons but remember they could get stuck down in the championship so they will not be stupid in offering to higher wages.

1 or 2 glimpses of quality in the time Edwards has been at PR, so im sorry but he is not worth the money Keane paid for him. Get shot asap.

agreed modman - think we need to give some of keanes signings chance to prove themselves under a decent manager. Not sure about Leadbitter though, think he always will be a kick and run type of player.

So, even Edwards is crap now is he? Edwards looked great to me at The Emirates - perhaps he didn't come across too well on the telly and radio though.
So many so called experts on here spouting rubbish today it's been really entertaining - the best laugh since people backed RK after the Nott Forrest match. Highlights today have been - We're paying Bullard's full wages, snigger, we should have paid an untried lower league player and his greedy agent with a blank cheque even though he clearly wanted to play for his old mate up north, teee hee hee, and wait for it..... "I think i preferred administration, at least we knew where we were" - guffaw!!!!
You could make this stuff up.

Hey - there's more.... "Two of Arsenal's goals were Edwards' fault!" Brilliant theory.
A stand-in R-Back v some of the bests players in the world! Another one of you football experts sold our really dependable R-Back, D Wright - but I don't expect some of you liked Wrighty either....

He's triggered a clause in his contract. Meaning this is a man who WANTS to play for Ipswich Town.

No where the fook could he have gone ? who would want him ?
As for Wright , have you seen him at palace-shocking -- keane got that right but then was stupid enough to not replace him. And Im glad rosenior went aswell. Thought he was PL class, hes having a laugh ! Can he get in the Hull team or wherever he ended up after being out the game for some reason !
