Town Amongst Clubs Linked With Kilkenny
Town Amongst Clubs Linked With Kilkenny
Monday, 6th Jun 2011 21:58

Town are amongst a number of Championship clubs reportedly chasing Leeds midfielder Neil Kilkenny, who is out of contract and available on a free transfer. The Blues, Hull City, Burnley, Nottingham Forest and Bristol City are all said to be interested in the Australian international.

The 25-year-old, who was previously linked with a move to Town when a Birmingham player in 2007, was born in Enfield but moved to Australia with his family as a child.

Having captained Queensland's representative side, Kilkenny joined Arsenal’s academy but in 2004 moved on to Birmingham without having featured for the Gunners at senior or reserve levels.

After four years, 10 starts, 29 sub appearances and two loan spells at Oldham, the 5ft 8in tall midfielder joined Leeds for £150,000 in January 2008.

Kilkenny has been with the Whites ever since, making 118 starts, playing 26 games from the bench and scoring 11 goals, before turning down the offer of a new contract towards the end of the season, Leeds recently confirming his exit.

Capped by England’s U18s and U20s, and having received calls by the Republic of Ireland at U19 level, Kilkenny committed to Australia, winning caps first with their U23s and then with the senior side, for whom he has now played eight times.

Currently away with his national squad, Kilkenny is said to be waiting until his return to decide on his future, suggesting he is unlikely to have been one of the players who has recently held talks at Portman Road.

Good point Gary, our midfielders must be the last men in Ipswich to know when it is raining!

Colback was the only footballer that I know to have turn ups on his shorts.

Speaking as an Australian and having just watched Kilkenny in 2 internationals (NZ & Serbia), I'd hope this is rumour alone.
Too slow, too many poor passes.

I mentioned this a couple of weeks ago, along with Johnson, who, sadly chose the scummers. Perhaps I should get into scouting!

OK wallingford boy, I'll respond. Please explain to me what you find exciting about endless "linked with" fantasies? How many players have we been "linked with" already this summer? and how many have we signed? Obviously you think I'm somehow 'out of order' to raise this issue but I believe I'm not alone in getting cheesed off with silly press speculations/fabrications and I want my club to sign good players. If this offends you in some way then.....oh dear, how sad!

let the premier teams,(and norwich) get their business sorted, then we are next option.players want to play in the premier first other options next which could lead to premier football.we may well have all but secured two or three signings already who knows.if everybody showed their hand at this stage it could mean the loss of a signing.lets do what we can to get the right players in.which is going to be hard as we all know we are not in a position to splash cash at players.as to speculation etc its a relief for me as the last few seasons our name being linked was non nearly non exsistant
