Jewell: More Additions Before Season Starts
Jewell: More Additions Before Season Starts
Thursday, 23rd Jun 2011 11:42

Town boss Paul Jewell says there will definitely be further additions to his squad before the season gets under way on Saturday 6th August at Bristol City. The Blues manager has already brought in strikers Michael Chopra and Nathan Ellington and defender Ivar Ingimarsson this summer.

Jewell says he is confident that more signings will follow: "I want to let the supporters know that we have a lot of business to do yet.

"I've probably been off the phone about 10 minutes since last season ended. I've been here, there and everywhere talking to players and agents, but I'm experienced enough to know that getting players in always takes time.

"The fans probably want to see us signing five, six, seven players, and we are looking at doing that, but as I said, we have to be patient.

"There will definitely be more players at this football club for August 6th. No question about that. Ideally I'd like to have everyone on board by the time we return to pre-season training at the start of July, but in reality that never happens.

"There is a lot of work going on behind the scenes and I'm confident we can get in the players we need to give this club a better chance of reaching the Premier League.

"We could sign 10 players tomorrow, but it's getting the right players that counts. It's quality not quantity."

Meanwhile, Town have confirmed that the home first round Carling Cup tie against Northampton will be played on Tuesday 9th August with a 7.45pm kick-off as expected.

Yes, we still need a midfield. And the moment this team is going as far as Leadbitter and Hyam can take it, and that ain't far.

In need of a couple of creative midfielders who can dictate the pace of the game.

whoppit is like a broken record, seriously!!! I swear every single story, all he tries to do is cast the same old negative comments. Haven't heard any sensible suggestions as to who we should be signing either, just non constructive criticism and evidence that some supporters of this club just can't be pleased..

Good work PJ, 3 very good early signings. What a difference this is from 12 months ago when our manager spent more time in the press room saying how far away we are from promotion, but much less time spent trying to do anything about it!

ALF - is that the same cup we got to the semi finals of??? Can't all be wrong changing the team to player lesser opponents ad reaching the semis can it?? And if I remember the first few league games started quite well!!
WHoppit still goes on - Kevin Philips?? Are you sure! There is experience and then there is ancient! Maybe John Wark will dust offend boots too!

Got to love what PJ is saying at the moment, and good to see people comin round to Clegg as well, although I'm sure it is to do with PJ being involved.

Think COnnor will be sold to pay for all these potential signings

Hardly a revelation, we will sign more players before the season starts. What next? Ipswich Town announce that they will play in blue next season? Ipswich Town announce that they will play home matches at Portman Road? PJ is quite right though to bide his time and get the right players at the right prices. At this time of year many players will want to keep their options open, clubs will want to drum up interest, line up replacements etc. PJ has done excellent business so far. Don't forget its a marathon not a snickers!

Hi everyone, stop responding to whoppit. He or she, has been on this message board for at least 18 months and only writes negative posts in the hope that people will respond to them.

Lets ALL try and ignore his posts in the hope that he will get board and go away.

I agree with Arc, midfield is a priorty too. Stephen McPhail at Cardiff would be a very good signing if he was available. Intelligent, gets on the ball and likes to pass. Also a good worker. Would be around £500k - £800k mark I would guess.

whoppit will change his user name again if we ignore him like it did last time, lets try to work out who he is.
he is either an 11 year old going through some changes!!!
or
a 48 year old virgin that has no friends and his only interaction with the outside world is this site.

Whoppit needs some happy pills!
Pj is doing a Grand job so far, Much much better than the last two managers we have had.

Hey! Lets all stop picking on Whoppit. he's a long-term user of this board and has the right to an opinion as has everyone else. he's right- ingimarrson and ellington are no better than Keane would have brought in and Chopra is only marginally better. Keven Phillips? Proven quality. Might only last 15 minutes at the end of a game but what a 15 minutes!! This guy is an absolute goal scoring legend. And has everyone forgot Andy Drury??? Hardly set the club on fire did he?
don't get carried away with the whole "In PJ we trust". Trust to do what? We need to start being realistic and COMPARING ourselves with other teams in this division. I would rate us higher than Brighton and Peterborough. think we may be lucky this season and avoid the drop though

Whippit, Whoppit? Are you two twins??

Coincidence in User names Legend- believe I came first!
Kevin Phillips would really send a shiver down every defender in the Championship. You just know he is going to make an impact

'Chopra only marginally better' , what planet do some people live on! Chopra is top class at this level, Jesus some people.

Phillips is good but his legs are going and is too much of a risk. (prob on a fair wage too)

Whippet is my brother from a different mother.

Want positive?? I thought Bullard was great and I would have loved to see him on board !!!

whoppit: did you really suggest Kevin Phillips when you had the temerity to call Ellington past it? Madness.

TractorBeezer added 15:36 - Jun 23
This is so much better than at the same stage last season. There was such a disconnect between Keano and Clegg with Keano not involved with the detailed player/agent negotiations and obviously not on the same page as Evans and Clegg.
Getting the miidfield right is still a major priority. ALos, we are counting on Jewell's man management skills making the biggest difference to get the best from players. I think that he will do that.
