Bullard Signs Two-Year Deal
Bullard Signs Two-Year Deal
Thursday, 25th Aug 2011 10:48

Former loanee Jimmy Bullard has rejoined the Blues, signing a two-year contract. The 32-year-old, last season's Player of the Year, underwent a medical at Portman Road last night and completed the formalities this morning.

Manager Paul Jewell said: "Jimmy Bullard’s signed and he’s an Ipswich player for the next two years. I’m absolutely delighted. It’s been an ongoing thing since Jimmy was here last year.

“We tried to broker a deal for him to come back but Hull, as was their prerogative, he was their player, weren’t prepared to let him out on for a [loan] fee we could really afford.

“Something’s gone on there, I don’t know what’s gone on. He’s obviously become a free agent and as soon as we heard that, we moved very quickly and spoke to his agent and the player, and we did a deal yesterday afternoon.

“I think it shows how much Jimmy enjoyed it here. He rang Monday and said there were a couple of clubs interested, one Premier, one or two Championship, but his preferences was to come here.

“It was down to finances to a certain extent but the most important thing was that we knew that he wanted to come and Jimmy knew that we wanted him."

The Town manager says the club haven't broken the bank to do the deal and confirmed that, as reported by TWTD yesterday, Portsmouth and QPR were the other main contenders: “No one comes cheap in this game these days. I think the owner deserves credit but so does Jimmy because everyone knows Jimmy was on a huge salary at Hull.

“I don’t know what’s gone on there and it’s not for me to speak about what’s gone on there. Money wasn’t the biggest issue. It was just ‘do you want me to come?’, and I asked him whether he wanted to come here.

“We didn’t want to get into a situation where we were bargaining against other clubs. I know that there was interest from QPR and definitely Portsmouth, but Jimmy wanted to come here, which is great.

“Both parties were happy to do it and hopefully he can have the same effect on this season as he did last.”

"We’re still waiting on the paperwork to go through for Daryl Murphy, who’s coming in on loan from Celtic, and with Ibrahima Sonko, we’re just waiting for his Twitter page to come up to confirm that!"

What a difference a few days makes. All doom and gloom on Sunday morning and here we are with the one player we all wanted to see back at Portman Road. And the signings of Sonko and Murphy show the right kind of intent. A midfield of Bullard, Bowyer and Andews is pretty tasty for this league. Make him captain and let's keep behind PJ and the team. Huzzah and a welcome return for Echelon Jimmy Bullard. My entire consortium has raised a glass of the finest champagne to toast the return of "this man of standards". Let us hope for some rasping performances on the field of play, him and Echelons JET/Chopra combining to fell the lay class defences throughout the championship and a general mark of standards evident. This is a wonderful example of the results driven nature of PJ in the way much like a true military genius he simply chose to bide his time and then “carpe diem” with this signature.

On behalf of the FDC welcome back Jimmy Bullard.

This shall be the first time I post and it's for the man at the Peterborough game who turned around to myself and some freinds as we jokingly sung Jimmy Bullards name, and screamed at us 'his not coming, give it a f'ing rest you idiots'.. You sir, were incorrect and I hoped you'd be wrong. Oh and I want curly hair too...

Stockdale
Edwards Sonko Ingimarsson Cresswell
Bowyer Bullard Andrews JET
Murphy Chopra

Bullard will add so much character and creativity to the midfield. Plus having two decent centre backs will make the midfield less nervous and give them more confidence to play. Murphy scored 1 in 3 last time round and will bring the best out of Chopra, who has been crying out for a strong target man to play off

Woh, woh woh... TWTD site is crashing, member's are having "semi's", pessimist's are suddenly becoming optimist's!!!.......His performance related euphoria is all to do with the past. You all sound like our tabloid press. If he doesn't live up to your expectation, or the team doesn't rise phoenix like from the ashes, he'll get the blame. It is exceptional that he has joined considering what he could have done. He obviously believe's in PJ and ITFC and the future. In 2 years he COULD be a legend, soon to become manager. But welcome him yes, but to get as orgasmic as this when he hasn't even kicked a ball this season ......Phew....I'm waiting for the fall....that I hope doesn't happen.
